What is Athletic Mentoring?
Student-athletes can look toward the
Athletic Academic Advisor (Ms. Rotella) for guidance in developing and
achieving their academic and career goals. Through individual and group
advising, this program assists student-athletes in establishing necessary
links to various university resources provided by the Academic and Human
Development Department. Referrals are also made to auxiliary services such as
Financial Aid, Student Records, and the Office of Multi-Cultural Affairs.
The mission of the Athletic
Mentoring Program is to maintain intercollegiate athletics as an integral part
of the campus educational program and the athlete as an integral part of the
student body. With this in mind, the NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills Program was
implemented a Mansfield University to support the student development
initiates and to enhance the quality of the student-athletes experience within
the university setting. The Athletic Mentoring Program/ CHAMPS Life Skills,
supports student-athletes’ development in the following four areas:
academic, personal, career, and community service.
Commitment to Academic Excellence
To support the academic progress of
the student-athletes toward intellectual development and graduation.
Commitment to Personal Development
To support the development of a
well-balanced lifestyle for student-athletes, encouraging emotional well
being, personal growth and decision-making skills.
Commitment to Career Development
To encourage the student-athlete to
develop and pursue career and life goals. Below are some links to more
