CHESTER – The Mansfield University women’s swim team is in 13th
place at the 2003 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Swimming
Championship after the third day of competition.
The
Mountaineer team of Katie Houck, Miranda Maikner, Charity Learn and Andrea
Popovic picked up two points with a 12th place finish in the 800 yard
freestyle relay with a tine of 8:26.95.
The
competition concludes Saturday evening.

STROUDSBURG – Andrea Popovic (Novi Sad, Yugoslavia) posted three
first place finishes, but it would not be enough as the Mansfield University
swim team dropped it’s final meet of the season 149-92 to East Stroudsburg.
Popovic
took first in the 1000 freestyle (11:25.0), 500 freestyle (5:32.16) and 200 IM
(2:27.46). Katie Houck (Orefield/Parkland) won the 100 freestyle
(58.61) and finished second in the 200 freestyle (2:11.33) and 50 freestyle
(27.11).
Miranda
Maikner (Zionsville/Quakertown) was second in the 200 breaststroke (2:44.12) and
third in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.24) while Diana Daniel (Rochester,NY/Brighton)
took third in the 100 backstroke (1:12.01).
Mansfield
finishes the 2002-2003 regular season with a 3-7 overall mark.

Mansfield – The Mansfield University women’s swim
team won all 11 events in defeating Wells College Saturday afternoon at Decker
Gymnasium.

team of Kelsey Hogan (Waverly,

got things started in the 400-yard medley relay with a winning time of 4:39.76.

the third time this season, junior Katie
Houck took first place in the 50 free (27.07) and 100 free (59.15)
The
multi-event winners include freshman Charity
Learn (Troy/Mansfield) in the 1650 free (20:28.15) and 500 free (6:00.4),
freshman Andrea Popovic (Novi Sad,
Yugoslavia) in the 200 free (2:05.81) and 100 fly (1:06.68), and freshman Miranda
Maikner in the 400 IM (5:09.47 and the 100 breast (1:15.18.).

set a personal best in both the 1650 and 500 free-style event.

fell to Edinboro, 72-23, and Kutztown , 61-32, in a PSAC tri-meet at Edinboro

IUP INVITATIONAL – KATIE HOUCK QUALIFIES FOR PSAC CHAMPIONSHIP IN 100 FREE
INDIANA, PA – Mansfield University’s Katie Houck
qualified for the PSAC Championship in the 100 free in the highlight Sunday’s
final day of the IUP Invitational Sunday.
Mansfield finished seventh in the three-day event with 128
points. IUP won the competition with 525 points.
Houck posted a qualifying time of 56.92 and placed ninth in
the 100 free. Freshman Miranda Maikner was sixth in the 200
backstroke with a time of 2:42.11 with freshman Kelsey Hogan of
Waverly and Stephanie Camp placing eighth and 10th in
the 200 back with times of 2:33.65 and 2:56.29 respectively.
Senior Sarah Davis earned team points with a
ninth place finish in the 200 fly (2:29.72) and freshman Andrea Popovic
was 10th in the 1650 free with a time of 19:25.80.
The 400 free relay team of Popovic, Maikner, Hogan and Houck
finished sixth.

INDIANA, PA – Freshman Miranda Maikner placed

won 12 of 13 events in defeating the College of St. Rose 77-58 in NCAA Division
II swimming Saturday afternoon.
Katie Houck (Orefield/Parkland) took first in the 200 free
(2:07.27), 100 free (58.74) and 50 free (27.31). with Miranda Maikner
(Zionsville/Quakertown) winning the 100 breast (1:15.72), 200 breast (2:43.15).
Sara Davis (Herald, CA/Hiram Johnson West) won the 200 fly (2:29.59) and 200 IM
(2:33.83) with Andrea Popovic (Novi Sad,Yugoslavia) taking first in the 1000

Scranton—Mansfield University women’s swim team had nine
first place and 7 second place finishes in their 125-98 victory over King’s
College late Friday night.
Freshman Andrea

500 and 1000 freestyle with times of 5:31.56 and 11:34.66, respectively.

season by finishing first in the women’s 500-yard freestyle (5:32.91) and in
the women’s 200 yard freestyle (2:05.07) but it was not enough as
Mansfield fell to Lock Haven 117-86.
Lock
Haven completed the day with nine first place finishes.
Junior
Katie Houck (Orefield/Parkland) finished second in both the women’s 100-yard
freestyle (58.78) and women’s 50-yard freestyle (26.86).

MANSFIELD-
Despite a strong performance from Andrea Popovic (Novi Sad, Yugoslavia),
Mansfield University fell short to Bloomsburg University 153-74 this afternoon
at Decker Pool.
Bloomsburg
finished the day with ten first place finishes including a close race in the
1000 yard freestyle. The Huskies’
Holly Hicks finished with a time of 11:29.79 just enough to beat out
Mansfield’s Popovic who finished less than a second behind with a time of
11:29.85.
Bloomsburg’s
Ashley Jones had two first place finishes for the Huskies as she finished the 50
yard free style with a time of 25.39 and at 55.36, Jones took first in the 100
yard freestyle.
Today’s
meet also featured Senior Day as Mansfield paid tribute to three-time letter
winner Sarah Davis (Herald,CA/Hiram Johnson West).
Davis finished second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:31.33,
behind Bloomsburg’s Jennifer Shank’s time of 2:20.65. in her final home swim
meet.
The

Relays
MANSFIELD-
California University, East Stroudsburg University, Juniata College, Lock Haven
University, and Millersville University took part in the Mansfield Relays
Saturday afternoon at Decker Gym.
After
opening the 2002/03-swim season the night before against California the Mounties
had a strong performance in the 800-yard free style relay. The team of Kelsey Hogan (Waverly,NY/Waverly), Kristine
Los (Mifflinburg/Mifflinburg), Miranda Maikner
(Zionsville/Quakertown) and Andrea Popovic (Novi Sad,
Yugoslavia) finished third overall in the event with a time of 9:09.84.
When
it was all said and done California University came up on top with a final point
total of 102, which was six more points than second place East Stroudsburg.

A senior at Mansfield University, Ulett has competed for four years in the NCAA Division II Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) competition. This season Ulett placed in two of her three individual events taking 11th in the 100 butterfly and 11th in the 200 free for the Mountaineers.
The daughter of John and Carol Ulett of Lee's Summit, Ulett is a Mass Communication major at Mansfield University.

MANSFIELD- At the East Stroudsburg Swimming Invitational this past Saturday, six Mansfield University swimmers placed in the top three in their respective events. There was no team scoring at the Invitational, which hosted Kutztown University, Lock Haven University, Mansfield University, and East Stroudsburg University.
A Mansfield team captured third place in the 400 medley relay. Cristina Jacome Ecuador/Am. School of Quito), a junior, took first place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:04.18 and also placed third in the 200 freestyle. In the 200 individual medley, senior, Teresa Ulett (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit HS) took second place. Placing third behind Ulett in the 200 individual medley was, freshman, Heidi Kendall (Baltimore, MD/Roland Park County). In the 200 breaststroke, freshman, Katrina Bartlett (Corning, NY/CPP West HS) captured third place. Junior, Sarah Davis (Herald, CA/Hiram Johnson), had a good day for the Mountaineers also. Davis swam the 400 individual medley and placed second, and grabbed third place in both the 200 butterfly and 100 butterfly. Davis teamed up with Bartlett, Kendall, and Los to win first place in the 400 freestyle relay.
The Invitational was the last scheduled meet for the Mountaineers before the PSAC Championships.

KUTZTOWN – The Mansfield University swim team returned to action for the first time since Dec. 8, in a PSAC tri-meet at Kutztown University Saturday afternoon.
Despite Cristina Jacome (Quito,Ecuador/American School)
first place finish in the 200 backstroke, the Mountaineers suffered setbacks to
Kutztown (71-24) and Edinboro (70-25).
Jacome finished almost five
second in front of her nearest competitor in the 200 back, posting a winning
time of 2:18.23. She also finished third in the 50 free (26.74) as well as
swimming the first leg of the 400 free relay team that finished third (4:05.13).

YARD BACKSTOKE AT IUP INVITATIONAL – MOUNTIES IN 6TH PLACE AFTER
SECOND DAY OF COMPETITION
INDIANA, PA – Junior Cristina Jacome took
first place in the 100 yard backstroke with an NCAA Provisional qualifying time
of 1:00.85 to pace Mansfield University to 6th place after the second
day of competition at the IUP Invitational Saturday evening.
Jacome, who hails from Quito, Ecuador,
finished more than two full seconds ahead of second place Ashley Boxmam of Salem
International.
Jacome also helped the Mountaineers 200 medley relay team and
800 free relay teams to a seventh place finish with a time of 2:03.03 and
8:39.53 respectively.
Teresa Ulett picked up seven team points for
Mansfield with a 7th place finish in the 100 fly and was also a
member of the medley and 800 free relay teams.
Mansfield is in sixth place with 57 team points. Wagner
College is first with 282.50.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE SWIMMERS SCORE AT IUP
INVITATIONAL
INDIANA,PA – Teresa Ulett took sixth place in
the 500 free while Cristina Jacome was ninth in the 50 free and 12th
in the 200 IM to pace Mansfield to 25 team points at the first day of the IUP
Invitational Friday.
Ulett swam the 500 in a time of 5:34.88 and also anchored the
200 free relay team of Cristina Jacome, Kristine Los,
and Katrina Bartlett
that took 7th with a time of 1:50.39.
Jacome swam the 50 free in 26.39 and the 200 IM in 2:21.85.
Jacome, Los, Ulett and Heidi Kendall made up
the 400 medley relay that took fifth with a time of 4:26.88.
The IUP Invitational continues Saturday and Sunday.

KING'S COLLEGE 106-86
MANSFIELD- Saturday the Mansfield women's swim team hosted King's College in a dual meet. The Mounties ended a three match-losing streak by defeating King's with a score of 106-86. Heidi Kendall, Teresa Ulett, and Cristina Jacome all swam for two first places finishes.
Heidi Kendall (Baltimore, MD) a freshman took first place in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 12:00.43 and also finished first with a time of1:09.32 in the 100 yard butterfly.
Teresa Ulett (Lee's Summit, MO), a senior, captured first place in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:10.06, and swam a time of 5:45.64 to finish first in the 500 yard freestyle.
Cristina Jacome (Quito, Ecuador) finished first in the 100 yard backstroke and the 200 yard IM. Jacome had a time of 2:23.50 in the 200 yard IM and a time of 1:01.58 in the 100 yard backstroke.
Kendall, Ulett, Jacome, and Kristine Los (Mifflinburg) swam the 200 yard medley relay and finished first with a time of 2:06.70. Los, a freshman, also took second place in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 28.52 and 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.29. Amanda Monahan (Stanley, NY) and Katrina Bartlett (Corning, NY), both freshmen, also finished with second places. Monahan swam 12:53.50 for her second place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle, and Bartlett swam a time of 1:25.77 for a second place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke.
The Mountaineers travel next to the Bloomsburg University Invitational on December 8th.

MANSFIELD
–Mansfield
University’s Cristina Jacome (Quito,
Equador) took two firsts and a second as the Mountaineer swim team fell to
Lycoming College126-68 in competition today at Lycoming.
Mansfield
was led by Junior Cristina Jacome who took first in both the100 backstroke with
a time of 1:01.20 and the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:18.08. Additionally,
Jacome took second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.21.
Senior
Teresa Ulett (Lee’s Summit, MO)
took home two second place finishes in both the 1650 freestyle with a
time of 19:31.23 and the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:03.92.
Also
receiving honors for Mansfield were freshmen Heidi
Kendall (Baltimore, MD) who took first in the 500 freestyle (5:57.06) and
second in the 100 breaststroke (1:24.74), junior Sarah Davis (Herald, CA) who took second in the 500 freestyle
(6:28.55) and freshmen Kristine Los
(Mifflinburg) who took third in the 100 freestyle (1:00.60).
The
Mounties next meet is against King’s College on Saturday, November 17 at 1p.m.
in Mansfield’s Decker Pool.

SWIMMING FALLS TO LOCK HAVEN 161-97
MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University swim team fell to Lock Haven 161-97 in PSAC swimming competition today at Mansfield’s Decker Pool.
Mansfield
was led by Freshmen Heidi Kendall (Baltimore, MD) taking first
place in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 1:02.02, the 200 butterfly with a
time of 2:29.65 and the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:54.17.
Earning
two first place finishes was Senior Teresa Ulett (Lee’s Summit, MO) in
both the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:06.08 and the 100 butterfly with a time
of 1:06.19.
Also
receiving honors was Junior Christina Jacome (Quito, Equador) who had a
first place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.22 and a second
place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:23.21.
The
Mounties next meet is at Lycoming College on Wednesday, November 14 at 6 p.m.

BLOOMSBURG
– The Mansfield University swim team fell to Bloomsburg University 132-97 in
PSAC swimming competition today at Bloomsburg.
Mansfield
was led by Christina Jacome, taking
first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.08. Jacome also took
second place finishes in the 50 freestyle, and the 200 backstroke. Jacome was
also a member of Mansfield’s first place 400 freestyle relay team.
The
Mansfield University 400 freestyle relay team took first place with the efforts
of Jacome, Freshman Kristine Los and Amanda
Monahan, and Teresa Ulett.
Ulett
also took second place in the 1000 freestyle and the 200 butterfly.
Sophomore
Kelly Coyle took first place in the
100-yard butterfly. Los and Katrina
Bartlett took first and second, respectively, in the 200 breaststroke.
Bartlett also took first place in the 200 individual medley.
Also
finishing first for Mansfield was Sarah
Davis in the 500 freestyle. Davis also took second in the 200 individual
medley.
The
Mounties next meet is at home against Lock Haven University, Saturday, November
10 at 1 p.m. at Decker Pool.

SEASON OPENING MANSFIELD UNIVERSITY RELAYS WITH A SCORE OF 82--MOUNTIES PLACE
SECOND IN 300 FLY, 300 BACKSTROKE, 800 FREE, 1500 FREE, AND 400 MEDLEY
MANSFIELD- The Mansfield University Mountaineer swim team opened the 2000-2001 season Saturday afternoon with a second place finish at the fourth annual Mansfield University Relays, in which five schools participated.
The Mountaineers took second place in the 300 Fly, 300 Backstroke, 800 Free, 1500 Free, and the 400 Medley. The team finished with a score of 82 behind East Stroudsburg score of 116 points. The team of Cristina Jacome (Quito, Ecuador/American School), Jen Markert(Royersford/Spring-Ford), Teresa Ulett (Lee's Summit, MO./Lee's Summit HS) finished placed second in the 300 Fly with a time of 3:16.60 and the 300 Back with a time of 3:18.64. In the 800 Free the team of Ulett, Heidi Kendall (Baltimore, MD/Roland Park County), Markert, and Jacome finished second with a time of 8:39.66. With a time of 17:25.97 in the 1500 Free the team of Kendall, Ulett, and Market also took a second place finish. Kristine Los (Mifflinburg/Mifflinburg High), Kendall, Markert, and Jacome teamed up for a second place finish in the 400 Medley with a time of 4:35.57.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE SWIMMERS FINISH 8TH AT PSAC CHAMPIONSHIPS -- TIE SCHOOL'S HIGHEST FINISH IN PSAC CHAMPIONSHIP
WEST CHESTER -- Cristina Jacome (Quito, Ecuador/American School) finished eighth in the 200 yard backstroke and Jen Markert (Royersford/Spring-Ford) placed 11th in the 200 butterfly to help Mansfield to a school record tying 8th place finish at the PSAC Swimming Championships at West Chester University Saturday.
Jacome earned five team points with a time of 2:11.81 while Markert picked up two team points with her time of 2:17.92.
The 400 yard freestyle team of Teresa Ulett (Lee's Summit,MO/Lee's Summit), Markert, Katie Houck (Orefield/Parkland), and Jaime Ragukonis (Dallas/Bishop Hoban) finished 11th overall to give Mansfield a total of 63 team points over the three day championship. West Chester was the team champion with 681 points.

WEST CHESTER -- Cristina Jacome (Quito, Ecuador/American School) just missed earning All-PSAC honors with a fourth place finish in the 100-yard backstroke at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Swimming Championships in West Chester Friday evening.
Jacome earned 11 points for her team with a time of 1:00.65 -- 02.61 behind first place finisher Melissa DeBellis of West Chester. Also picking up points for her team was Teresa Ulett (Lee's Summitt,MO/Lee's Summit) who earned two team points with a 10th place finish of 1:01.35 in the 100-yard butterfly.
The 200 yard medley relay team of Jacome, Jaime Ragukonis (Dallas/Bishop Hoban), Ulett and Jen Markert (Royersford/Spring-Ford) earned 14 team points with a seven place finish in a school record time of 1:54.87 topping the old mark of 1:55.44 set at the PSAC Championships lasts season.
That same team also set a new MU record in the 800 yard freestyle relay with a ninth place finish of 8:14.03 to shatter the old mark of 8:21.35 set in 1999.
The Mountaineers remain in eighth place going into the final day of the competition with 52 points, one point behind Kutztown University for seventh place. West Chester leads the pack with 463 points.
