FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE SWIMMERS WIN ALL EVENTS IN 109-70 VICTORY OVER WELLS COLLEGE

Mansfield – The Mansfield University women’s swim team won all 11 events in defeating Wells College Saturday afternoon at Decker Gymnasium.

The team of Kelsey Hogan (Waverly, NY/Waverly), Miranda Maikner (Zionsville/Quakertown), Kelly Coyle (Chemung, NY/Waverly) and Katie Houck (Orefield/Parkland) got things started in the 400-yard medley relay with a winning time of 4:39.76.

For the third time this season, junior Katie Houck took first place in the 50 free (27.07) and 100 free (59.15)

The multi-event winners include freshman Charity Learn (Troy/Mansfield) in the 1650 free (20:28.15) and 500 free (6:00.4), freshman Andrea Popovic (Novi Sad, Yugoslavia) in the 200 free (2:05.81) and 100 fly (1:06.68), and freshman Miranda Maikner in the 400 IM (5:09.47 and the 100 breast (1:15.18.).

Learn set a personal best in both the 1650 and 500 free-style event.

Freshman Diana Daniel (Rochester, NY/Brighton) set a personal best in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:12.08.

The team of Learn, Popovic, Daniel and Melissa Recchiuti (West Chester, PA) finished the perfect day by winning the 400-yard freestyle in a time of 4:11.72.

The win ups Mansfield’s record to 3-6 on the season.

The team’s next meet will be at East Stroudsburg on February 1.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE SWIMMERS FINISH 8TH AT PSAC CHAMPIONSHIPS -- TIE SCHOOL'S HIGHEST FINISH IN PSAC CHAMPIONSHIP

WEST CHESTER -- Cristina Jacome (Quito, Ecuador/American School) finished eighth in the 200 yard backstroke and Jen Markert (Royersford/Spring-Ford) placed 11th in the 200 butterfly to help Mansfield to a school record tying 8th place finish at the PSAC Swimming Championships at West Chester University Saturday.

Jacome earned five team points with a time of 2:11.81 while Markert picked up two team points with her time of 2:17.92.

The 400 yard freestyle team of Teresa Ulett (Lee's Summit,MO/Lee's Summit), Markert, Katie Houck (Orefield/Parkland), and Jaime Ragukonis (Dallas/Bishop Hoban) finished 11th overall to give Mansfield a total of 63 team points over the three day championship. West Chester was the team champion with 681 points.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE WOMEN IN 8TH PLACE AT END OF SECOND DAY OF PSAC SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP -- CRISTINA JACOME FOURTH IN 100 BACKSTROKE -- NEW MU RECORDS IN 200 MEDLEY AND 800 YARD FREESTYLE RELAYS

WEST CHESTER -- Cristina Jacome (Quito, Ecuador/American School) just missed earning All-PSAC honors with a fourth place finish in the 100-yard backstroke at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Swimming Championships in West Chester Friday evening.

Jacome earned 11 points for her team with a time of 1:00.65 -- 02.61 behind first place finisher Melissa DeBellis of West Chester. Also picking up points for her team was Teresa Ulett (Lee's Summitt,MO/Lee's Summit) who earned two team points with a 10th place finish of 1:01.35 in the 100-yard butterfly.

The 200 yard medley relay team of Jacome, Jaime Ragukonis (Dallas/Bishop Hoban), Ulett and Jen Markert (Royersford/Spring-Ford) earned 14 team points with a seven place finish in a school record time of 1:54.87 topping the old mark of 1:55.44 set at the PSAC Championships lasts season.

That same team also set a new MU record in the 800 yard freestyle relay with a ninth place finish of 8:14.03 to shatter the old mark of 8:21.35 set in 1999.

The Mountaineers remain in eighth place going into the final day of the competition with 52 points, one point behind Kutztown University for seventh place. West Chester leads the pack with 463 points.

-- On the strength of placing in two relays, the Mansfield University swim team ranks eighth after the first day of competition at the 2001 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women's Swimming Championship at West Chester University.

The team of Jaime Ragukonis (Dallas/Bishop Hoban), Katie Houck (Orefield/Parkland), Cristina Jacome (Quito,Ecuador/American School), and Teresa Ulett (Lee's Summit,MO/Lee's Summit) was eighth in the 200 meter freestyle relay with a time of 1:43.13 to earn 10 team points while Jacome and Houck, along with Jen Markert (Royersford/Spring-Ford) and Amanda Yeakey (Michigan City,IN/Michigan City) was 10th in the 400 yard medley with a time of 4:18.18.

Mansfield is tied with Edinboro and Millersville with 14 points

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- MANSFIELD SWIMMERS FALL TO EAST STROUDSBURG 106-81 IN LAST DUAL MEET OF SEASON -- MANSFIELD TAKES FIVE FIRST PLACE VICTORIES

EAST STROUDSBURG -- Mansfield fell to East Stroudsburg 106-81 in PSAC East swimming action today. Mansfield took first place in four individual events and one relay but was unable to overcome East Stroudsburg.

First place finishers for the Mountaineers include, Amanda Yeakey (Michigan City, IN/Michigan City) in the 1000-free (11:35.71), Jen Markert Royersford/Spring-Ford) in the 200-fly (2:14.10), Cristina Jacome for the 100-back, (1:00.97), Teresa Ulett (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) in the 500-free (5:30.51), and Katie Houck (Orefield/Parkland) in the 100-breast (1:19.02).

Jamie Ragukonis (Dallas/Bishop Hoban) finished second in the 100-free with a time of 55.72. Markert also had a second place finish in the 200-freestyle clocking in at 2:03.28.

Sarah Litchfield (Mansfield/Mansfield) took second in the 100-breast and third in the 200-individual medley with times of 1:34.99 and 2:56.39 respectively.

Mansfield also took first place in the 800-free relay with the combination of Ragukonis, Ulett, Yeakey and Jacome.

With the loss the Mounties record falls to 4-7. The Mounties will compete in the PSAC Championships February 15-17 at West Chester University.

MANSFIELD
-- Mansfield took first place in every event to beat Well's College 107-72 at Decker Pool today.

Mansfield had five different swimmers take first place including Jaime Ragukonis (Dallas/Bishop Hoban) who took first place in the 200-I.M.(2:25.40), the 500-freestyle (5:41.76) and was a member of the winning 400-medley relay team (4:16.65).

Jen Markert (Royersford/Spring-Ford) also participated in the winning 400-medley relay team as well as taking first place honors in the 100 (58.34) and 200-freestyle (2:09.90).

Cristina Jacome (Quito, Ecuador/American School) took home three first place finishes as she swam a 25.87 to win the 50-free and a 1:15.50 to take
the 100-breaststroke. Jacome was also a member of the 400-medley relay team.

Amanda Yeakey (Michigan City, IN/Michigan City) finished first in two events including the 1000-freestyle, finishing with a time of 11:44.35 and 1:09.36 in the 100-backstroke.

Teresa Ulett (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) finished first in the 100-butterfly with a time of 1:04.00 and participated in the 400-medley relay as well.

Katie Houck (Orefield/Parkland) ended the day with second place finishes in the 50-freestyle and the 100-freestyle with times of 27.06 and 1:00.22 respectively.

Sarah Litchfield (Mansfield/Mansfield) had a second and third place finish today, taking second in the 100-backstroke with a time of 1:22.89 and third in the 200-freestyle, clocking in at 2:32.73.

With the win Mansfield improves their record to 4-6 overall and will take on East Stroudsburg at 1p.m. Saturday Feb. 3rd.

The Mansfield University swimmer captured first place in eight of 14 events, but lost to Millersville University in PSAC swimming.

Senior Jamie Ragukonis (Dallas/Bishop Hoban) took first in the 100 (56.94) and 200 (2:02.49) freestyle and anchored the winning 400-relay team for the
Mountaineers.

Also earning three first place finishes was Cristina Jacome (Quito, Ecuador/American School) in the 100 backstroke (1:02.17), 200 backstroke (2:16.07) and 200 IM (2:21.52).

Jen Markert (Royersford/Spring-Ford) was first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:17.47 and finished second in the 1000 freestyle (11:16.17).

ACTION DESPITE LOSING MEET TO EDINBORO AND KUTZTOWN 50-45 AND 58.5-36.5

MANSFIELD, PA --
The Mansfield women swam hard but lacked the manpower to beat Edinboro University or Kutztown University in a PSAC tri-meet on Saturday at Decker Pool on the campus of Mansfield University. The
Mansfield women lost to Edinboro 50-45 and lost to Kutztown 58.5-36.5.

Despite losing, there were many bright spots for the Mansfield swim team. Five swimmers took home first place on Saturday. Mansfield swimmers who finished first include Jamie Ragukonis (Dallas, PA) in the 200 free (2:00.34), Teresa Ulett (Lee's Summit, MO) who finished first in the 1000 Freestyle (11:40.20), Jen Markert (Royersford, PA) taking first place in the 200 Butterfly (2:18.13), and Cristina Jacome (Quito, Ecuador) who placed first in the 200 Backstroke (2:12.04).

Mansfield's next swim meet is at Millersville on January 20th at 1:00 p.m.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE SWIMMERS FINISH THIRD AT CLARION INVITATIONAL -- JAMIE RAGUKONIS AND TERESA ULETT SET NEW SCHOOL RECORDS

MANSFIELD -- The Mansfield University women's swimming team finished 3rd the Clarion University Invitational this past weekend.

The Mountaineers finished behind host Clarion and PSAC West foe Edinboro in the five-team meet.

Senior Jamie Ragukonis (Dallas/Bishop Hoban) broke her own school record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:00.59 and finished first in the 100 free (55.26) and second in the 50 free.

Junior Teresa Ulett (Lee's Summit,MO/Lee's Summit HS) also broke her own school record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:29.14 while sophomore Jen Markert (Royersford/Spring-Ford) took first in the 400 IM (4:57.03) and the 1650 free (19.16.98). Sophomore Cristina Jacome (Quito, Ecuador/American School) was second in the 100 backstroke.

The swim team will be off until they host Edinboro University on Jan. 13th.

JUNIATA COLLEGE -- Mansfield University fell to Juniata College 110-91 in swimming action Wednesday night. Mansfield held the lead twice but forfeited 15 points to Juniata in the last event when Mansfield did not have enough swimmers to compete in the 200-free relay.

Christina Jacome (Quito, Ecuador) took first place finishes in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:37.55 and 200-back with 2:34.45.

Amanda Yeakey (Michigan City, IN) and Jen Markert (Royersford/Spring-Ford) took first and second place respectively in the 800-free. Markert and Yeakey would take first and second in the 400-free also but with Markert finishing first with a time of 4:57.25 and Yeakey taking second with 5:04.48. Markert also took first place in the 200-fly with a time of 2:36.50.

Jamie Ragukonis (Dallas/Bishop Hoban) finished first in the 50-free with a time of 28.95 and took second in the 200-breast with 3:04.75. Junior Teresa Ulett (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) finished second in the 200-free and 200-fly while freshman Katie Houck (Orefield) also took a second place finish in the 100-free with 1:07.78.

The Mounties record now falls to 3-3 with the loss.

The Mansfield University swim team captured nine-of-eleven events on its way to a 110-84 win over King's College Saturday afternoon.
Six different MU swimmers posted first place finishes in individual events with sophomore Jen Market and freshman Amanda Yeakey each winning twice.

Markert took first in the 200 free and 100 butterfly with Yeakey earning top honors in the 500 and 1000 free. Also taking first's the Mountaineers
were Christina Jacome in the 50 free, Jamie Ragukonis in the 200 IM, Teresa Ulett in the 100 free and Katie Houck in the 100 breast. The team of Jacome, Houck, Ulett, and Ragukonis captured the 200-medley relay.

The Mountaineers improve to 3-2 over with the win.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- MANSFIELD SWIMMERS DEFEAT LYCOMING 109-93 -- RAGUKONIS BREAKS HER OWN SCHOOL RECORD IN 100 BREAST STROKE FOR THE SECOND TIME THIS SEASON.

MANSFIELD, PA -- Mansfield took first place in seven of nine individual events and one relay as they beat Lycoming College 109-93. Senior Jamie Ragukonis (Dallas/Bishop Hoban) broke her own school record in the 100-breast stroke with a time of 1:13.10, a record she set against Lock Haven earlier this season. Ragukonis also had a first place finish in the 50-freestyle and 400-medley relay.

Jen Markert (Royersford/Spring-Ford) set three new pool records in the meet against Lycoming. Markert now holds the pool records for the 1650-freestyle with 19:11.85, the 100-butterfly with 1:01.64, and the 400-individual medley with 4:55.14.

Cristina Jacome (Quito, Ecuador) finished first in the 100-backstroke and second in the 400-individual medley for Mansfield. Teresa Ulett (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) took first place in the 500-freestyle with 5:42.66 and second place in the 100-butterfly with 1:01.67. Ulett was also a member of the first place 400-medley relay team. Katie Houck (Orefield, PA) took first in the 200-freestyle with a time of 2:07.80, and was also a member of the first place 400-medley relay team. Amanda Yeakey (Michigan City, IN/Michigan City) finished strong for the Mounties, taking second place in the 1650 freestyle and 500-freestyle with 19:59.12 and 5:45.74, respectively. Ashley Litchfield (Wellsboro/ Mansfield Jr-Sr) took third in the 50-freestyle with 29:03 while Sarah Litchfield (Wellsboro/Mansfield Jr-Sr) took fifth place in the 200-freestyle with 2:45.85.

The Mounties next meet is away against King's College on Saturday November 18 at 1:00.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- MOUNTAINEER SWIMMERS WIN EIGHT OF 14 EVENTS BUT FALL TO HOST LOCK HAVEN 137.5 TO 110.5 - RAGUKONIS BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD IN 100 BREASTSTROKE

LOCK HAVEN, PA - Mansfield fell to 1-2 overall on Thursday evening as the ladies lack of depth caught up with them. The Mountie women won eight events but lost the overall dual action meet. Leading the way for Mansfield was Cristina Jacome (Quito, Ecuador) and Teresa Ulett (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit), each winning three events. Jacome took home firsts in the 200 Medley Relay and 100 and 200 yard backstroke events. Ulett finished first in the 200 Medley Relay as well as the 1000 Freestyle and the 100 Butterfly.

Jamie Ragukonis (Dallas/Bishop Hoban) also won two events for Mansfield. She placed first in the 200 Medley Relay and took home an individual first place winning the 100 Breaststroke in which she broke her own school record. She eclipsed the school record best by a half of a second (1:13.68). Jen Markert (Royersford, PA) placed first in the 200 Butterfly and the 200 Individual Medley.  Katie Houck (Orefield, PA) placed second and third in the 200 Freestyle 50 Freestyle, respectively.  Zenan Al-Shahrani (Columbia Cross Rds, PA) placed fifth in the 100 Backstroke, Freestyle and Butterfly.  Sarah Litchfield (Wellsboro, PA) placed fifth in the 200 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke and 200 Individual Medley.

The Mountaineers next meet is at home against Lycoming College on November 15th.

MANSFIELD -- Mansfield University's swim team fell to Bloomsburg, 101-53 and narrowly beat Millersville 53-47. Bloomsburg took first place in seven of nine individual events and first in the 200 Freestyle relay to seal the win.

For Mansfield, sophomore Cristina Jacome (Quito, Ecuador) took first place in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:20.32 and set a new pool record in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:15.22. Mansfield opened the meet with a first place 200 Medley relay consisting of Cristina Jacome, Jamie Ragukonis (Dallas/Bishop Hoban), Teresa Ulett (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) and Katie Houck (Orefield, PA) clocking a time of 1:58.16. Senior Jamie Ragukonis took second place in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:03.06 and third in the 200 Breaststroke with 2:46.41. Jen Markert (Royersford, PA) took third place in the 1000 Freestyle with 11:44.19 and second in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:18.22.

After the first relay Bloomsburg took control of the meet and didn't let go, scoring first place in the 200 Freestyle Relay and seven out of nine individual events with a second place finish in the two they missed.

Millersville took three second place finishes through the day, two of which were from Erin Eisenhofer. Sarah reinfried took second in the 200 Breaststroke.

Mansfield's next swim meet is away against Lock Haven, Thursday, November 9 at 6:00 p.m.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- MANSFIELD UNIVERSITY SWIM TEAM TAKES FIRST PLACE IN THE MANSFIELD RELAYS FOR THE FIRST TIME -- SEVEN MEET RECORDS FALL.

MANSFIELD -- The Mansfield University swim team won the final relay of the afternoon to edge East Stroudsburg and claim first place honors in the Mansfield Relays Saturday afternoon at the Decker Gymnasium pool.

It was the first time in the three-year history of the relays the Mountaineers claim first place honors in the five-school event.

East Stroudsburg held a slim lead 102-98 lead over the Mountaineers going in the final event of the afternoon -- the 400 freestyle. Mansfield had to win the event while East Stroudsburg could finish no worse than second for the Mountaineers to earn the team title

The relay team of Teresa Ulett (Lee's Summit, MO), Amanda Yeakey (Michigan City, IN), Katie Houck (Orefield, PA), and Jamie Ragukonis (Dallas, PA) set a meet record and a pool record with a time of 3:51.36 to take first and seal a win for Mansfield. East Stroudsburg took fourth behind Millersville and Lock Haven.

Mansfield held consistently as a top three finisher, never falling below third place in an event the entire day. East Stroudsburg took the lead after the third event and it took Mansfield five first place finishes out of ten events to reclaim.

East Stroudsburg set four meet records and two pool records in their effort on the day. Lock Haven also had a meet record in the 300 Backstroke Relay with a time of 3:15.45. Mansfield took the first event and started the record-breaking trend with a time of 3:11.35 in the 300 Butterfly relay.

 

The Mounties next meet is home against Bloomsburg and Millersville at Decker pool. The meet begins at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4.
