RELEASE DATE: 3/13/04 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SOFTBALL SWEEPS ST. AUGUSTINE TO IMPROVE TO 9-3 – KRISTEN DEAN FIRES COMPLETE GAME FOUR-HIT SHUTOUT RALEIGH, NC – Kristen Dean (Roaring Branch/Canton) threw a shutout in the opener and Christine Ross (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) went the distance in the nightcap to lead Mansfield University to a 13-0, 16-3 sweep over St. Augustine College Saturday afternoon in Raleigh, NC. Dean scattered four hits and struck out 11 while walking none to improve to 4-2 on the season. Jackie Laskowski (Olyphant/Mid-Valley) hit her third home run of the season, a two-run shot in the seventh while Sytiva Seitz (Dallastown/Dallastown) went 3-4 with a double and four RBI’s. Kay Canfield (Columbia Crossroads/Troy) also went 3-4 from the plate. In the nightcap, the Mountaineers backed up freshman pitcher Ross with 16 hits in improving to 9-3 on the season. Ross scatted six hits while striking out eight. Seitz was 2-3 with a double and four RBI’s with Laskowski going 2-3 with a triple and three RBI’s. Alison Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore) was 3-4. Mansfield will travel to Virginia to play Virginia State and Virginia Union next weekend. GAME ONE
