FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE SOFTBALL SWEEPS IN MYRTLE BEACH – IMPROVE TO 4-0 ON SEASON

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Freshman Christine Ross (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) fired a complete game shutout in the opener and Kristen Dean (Roaring Branch/Canton) picked up her second win of the season in the nightcap to lead Mansfield University to a 9-0 shutout over Green Mountain College (VT) and 803 win over Columbia Union (MD) at the Snowbird Softball Invitational in Myrtle Beach, SC on Monday afternoon.

Ross allowed just three hits while striking out five and walking won in a game ended by the mercy rule. Her teammates gave her plenty of offensive help with Tricia Bailey (Canton/Canton) going 3-3 at the plate including a triple. Nancy Quinn ( Merritt Island , FL / Merritt Island ) was 2-4 with a triple and two rbi’s with Sytive Seitz (Dallastown/Dallastown), Heather Long (Pottsgrove/Pottstown), and Kay Canfield ( Columbia Crossroads/Troy) each having two hits. Jackie Laskowski (Olyphant/Mid-Valley) had a two-run double.

In the nightcap, Dean went the distance to pick up her second win of the season allowing one earned run and striking out four. Heather Long went 2-3 with a triple and two rbi’s with Seitz, Alison Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore), and Shannon McDonnell (Scranton/Bishop O’Hara) also adding two hits each.

Mansfield trailed 2-1 before Long’s two-run triple in the third inning led to 10 Mansfield runs over the next two innings.

Mansfield (4-0) will play two games on Tuesday.
