RELEASE DATE: 3/22/04 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: CHRISTINE ROSS NAMED PSAC EAST PITCHER OF THE WEEK – FRESHMAN THROWS NO-HITTER IN WIN OVER VIRGINIA UNION MANSFIELD – Mansfield University freshman standout Christine Ross (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Pitcher of the Week for her outstanding performance in the week ending 3/21. Ross, a left-handed freshman, come one batter from pitching a perfect game in throwing a 10-0 no-hitter against Virginia Union. In five innings worked, Ross struck out six batters while allowing just a walk in the fifth inning in improving to 4-1 on the season. In 27.1 innings pitched, Ross has given up 20 hits while striking out 27 batters and walking ten. She has allowed just two earned runs on the season for a .063 ERA and an opponent batting average of .185. The Mountaineers are currently 13-3 on the season and open the PSAC East season when they travel to Shippensburg University this Friday. The daughter of Aida and Rodney Ross of Harrisburg, Christine is majoring in elementary education at Mansfield. |
