FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: DEAN THROWS COMPLETE GAME AS MOUNTIES SPLIT WITH MILLERSVILLE IN PSAC EAST SOFTBALL

MANSFIELD – Kristen Dean (Roaring Branch/Canton) threw a complete game in the nightcap, scattering nine hits and allowing one run as Mansfield split a PSAC East doubleheader with Millersville 3-5, 6-1 at Helen Lutes Field Thursday afternoon.

Although not overpowering, Dean kept Millersville off balance during the game forcing 11 ground outs while striking out six. Mansfield broke up a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth Nancy Quinn led off with a single and scored on a double by Alison Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore). Tricia Bailey (Canton/Canton) later doubled home Tagliaferri and Dean to give the Mountaineers all the runs they would need. Tagliaferri was 2-3 with two doubles and two RBI’s while Kris Kelly (Nineveh,NY/Afton) also went 2-3 from the plate.

In the opener, Mansfield built a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by Kris Kelly and run scoring single by Nancy Quinn (Merritt Island/Merritt Island). Millersville tied the score with two runs of their own in the top of the fourth, but the Mountaineers came right back to take a 3-2 advantage on a RBI double by Sytiva Seitz (Dallastown/Dallastown).

But Millersville scored three runs in the top of the sixth on a three run double by Brandi Catherman to pull out the win. Seitz went 2-3 with a double and RBI for Mansfield.

The Mountaineers improve to 17-9 overall and 4-6 in the PSAC East and will travel to East Stroudsburg for a doubleheader on Friday before returning home to face Shippensburg in a twinbill on Saturday.
