STROUDSBURG – Amy Martino (Binghamton,NY/Chenango
Valley) fired
a complete game three-hitter in the opener as Martino dominated on the mound, scattering three hits and striking out 10 with two walks to earn her third win of the season. Mansfield got all the runs Martino would need in the first inning when Kris Kelly (Nineveh,NY/Afton) doubled and scored on a double by Alison Tagliafgerri (Linden/Jersey Shore). Tagliaferri scored on a triple by Tricia Bailey (Canton/Canton). Mansfield would add an insurance run in the fifth on a Tagliaferri’s solo home run – here seventh of the season. Tagliaferri was 2-2 with a double, home run and two RBI’s in the game. In the nightcap, the Mountaineers fell behind 4-0 after two innings and could not recover. Tagliaferri went 2-3 while Bailey and Heather Long (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) both doubled. The Mountaineers will play Shippensburg – the #3 ranked team in NCAA Division II in a doubleheader at Helen Lutes Field on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
