FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JACKIE LASKOWSKI’S TWO-RUN HOME RUN LIFTS MOUNTIES TO 3-2 WIN OVER BLOOMSBURG IN PSAC EAST SPLIT

MANSFIELD – Jackie Laskowski (Olyphant/Mid Valley) drilled a two-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift Mansfield to a 3-2 win over Bloomsburg in the opening game of a PSAC East doubleheader at Helen Lutes Field Tuesday afternoon. Bloomsburg won the nightcap 12-2.

Mansfield trailed 2-1 going into the bottom of the sixth after Bloomsburg had scored a solo run in the top of the inning. Alison Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore) led off the inning for the Mountaineers with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt before Laskowski drilled her fifth home run of the season over the centerfield fence.

Laskowski’s home run overshadowed a great pitching dual between Tagliaferri and Bloomsburg’s Amber Cowher. Tagliaferri, who scattered seven hits while striking out seven, struck out two of the final three batters in the top of the seventh to give Mansfield it’s first home victory over Bloomsburg at Helen Lutes Field.

Tagliaferri also went 2-3 at the plate and doubled in the game’s first run in the bottom of the third inning.

In the nightcap, Bloomsburg erupted for seven runs in the fifth inning to earn a split. Tagliaferri blasted her sixth home run of the season with a solo shot in the third inning. Nancy Quinn (Merritt Island,FL/Merritt Island) also hit solo home run in the third and also added a double.

Mansfield improves to 16-8 overall and 3-5 in the PSAC East. The Mountaineers will host Millersville on Thursday.
