FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ALISON TAGLIAFERRI NAMED PSAC EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK – JUNIOR EARNS HONOR FOR SECOND TIME THIS SEASON

MANSFIELD – Mansfield University standout Alison Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore) has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Player of the Week for outstanding performance during the week ending 4/11.

In eight games during the week, Tagliaferri batted .571. In 21-at-bats, she slugged out 12 hits, including four doubles and three home runs with seven RBI. In Mansfield's first-ever win over Bloomsburg at Lutes Field, she went 2-3 with a double, an RBI and was also the winning pitcher, striking out seven in the complete game. Against Shippensburg, Tagliaferri ended Kelley Tiesi's NCAA record for consecutive scoreless innings pitched at 83 2/3 when she drilled a home run in the seventh inning. 

For the season, Tagliaferri ranks among the leading hitters in the PSAC with a .472 batting average. In 72 at-bats she has rapped out 34 hits including five doubles, two triples and seven home runs with 28 runs batted in. Tagliaferri is also 4-3 on the mound with 56 strikeouts in 53 innings worked and 2.55 ERA.

It marks the second time Tagliaferri has earned PSAC East Player of the Week honors this season.

The Mountaineers are currently 18-12 overall and 5-9 in the PSAC East. The host West Chester in a doubleheader at Helen Lutes Field this Wednesday.
