RELEASE DATE: 3/09/04 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE SOFTBALL SPLITS IN MYRTLE BEACH – TAGLIAFERRI THROWS ONE-HITTER IN NIGHTCAP MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Just hours after being named to First Team All-PSAC East honors in basketball, Alison Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore) threw a one-hitter in a 9-1 victory over Concordia (NY) College in the Snowbird Invitation at Myrtle Beach, SC Tuesday. Mansfield dropped an 8-5 decision to Martin-Methodist College in their first game of the day. Making her first start on the mound of the season, Tagliaferri showed she had lost little of her fastball in striking out eight batters in just five innings in a game shortened by the mercy rule. Senior Kay Canfield (Columbia Crossroads/Troy) drilled a three-run home run in the third inning with Sytiva Seitz (Dallastown/Dallastown) going 3-3 from the plate and Marissa Kosydar (Dickson City/Mid-Valley) rapping out two hits in three at-bats. Tagliaferri also had a triple. In the opener, Mansfield held a 5-4 lead before Martin-Methodist got a two-out three-run triple in the bottom of the fifth. Tricia Bailey (Canton/Canton) and Heather Long (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) each had two hits for Mansfield. The Mountaineers are now 5-1 on the season and will play twice on Wednesday.
