Release Date: 4/18/04 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MANSFIELD SOFTBALL DROPS TWO TO WEST CHESTER MANSFIELD- Despite strong pitching performances by Amy Martino (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) and Alison Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore) the Mansfield University softball fell short to West Chester University 2-1, 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Lutes Field. In the opener West Chester scored first in the top half of the third inning when Kim Fulmer singled in Jackie Ludwig. The Golden Rams would score another run later in the game in the top half of the fifth inning when Ludwig hit a solo homerun off Martino. Martino went the distance giving up just one earned run while striking out five batters. In the bottom half of the seventh inning the Mountaineers came back when Jacklyn Laskowski (Olyphant/Mid-Valley) drove in Kristy Loomis (Carbondale/Bishop O’Hara) on a hit to centerfield, but it was not enough as Mansfield fell short to West Chester 2-1. In the night cap West Chester scored two runs in the top half of the second inning and went on to win 2-0. Tagliaferri went the distance allowing just two runs and scattered three hits while striking out seven batters. Tricia Bailey (Canton/Canton) and Alexis Drebitko (Syracuse,N.Y./West Genesee) each went 2-3 at the plate. The Mountaineers are now 22-14 overall and 9-11 in the PSAC East standings. Mansfield’s next game is 2:30 p.m. April 23 at Bloomsburg University.
