Release Date: 4/17/04 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MANSFIELD SOFTBALL SWEEPS MILLERSVILLE 1-0, 6-3 MILLERSVILLE- Heather Long (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) made a game saving catch in the bottom half of the seventh inning in game one as Mansfield University swept Millersville University 1-0,6-3 Saturday afternoon at Millersville. In the opener Mansfield had a strong pitching performance from Amy Martino (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) who went five innings giving up zero runs while scattering just two hits and striking out eight batters.
In the nightcap the Mountaineers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead scoring four runs in the first inning. Mansfield would add two more runs in the top half of the fourth inning off a Laskowski two-run homerun giving Mansfield a 6-0 lead. Tagliaferri recorded her sixth victory of the season as she gave up just one run while striking out seven batters. The Mountaineers are now 22-12 overall and 9-9 in the PSAC East standings. Mansfield will play host to West Chester University 1 p.m. tomorrow at Lutes Field.
