RELEASE DATE: 4/10/04 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES DROP A DOUBLEHEADER TO #2 RANKED SHIPPENSBURG – TAGLIAFERRI BLAST EIGHTH HOME RUN OF SEASON MANSFIELD – Shippensburg University, the number two ranked team in the latest NCAA Division II Softball poll, swept Mansfield University 5-1, 6-1 in a PSAC East doubleheader at Helen Lutes Field Saturday afternoon. In the opener, the Mountaineers became the first team to score an earned run of Shippensburg ace Kelley Tiesi ending her NCAA record of 84 shutout innings and 110 innings without an earn run when Alison Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore) drilled a shot over the centerfield fence in the bottom of the seventh inning. It was Tagliaferri’s
eighth home run of the season putting her one behind Jackie Laskowski’s
(Olyphant/Mid-Valley In the nightcap, Shippensburg broke up a 1-1 tie with a solo run in the fourth inning and put the game away with three runs in the top of the sixth. Tagliaferri went 2-3 to pace the Mountaineers offense. Mansfield falls to 18-12 overall and 5-9 in the PSAC East and will host West Chester on Wednesday.
