RELEASE DATE: 4/01/04 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MANSFIELD’S ALISON TAGLIAFERRI AND NANCY QUINN TO PLAY FOR UNITED STATES SOFTBALL TEAM IN 11TH ANNUAL HOLLAND INVITATIONAL SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT THIS SUMMER MANSFIELD – Mansfield University softball standouts Alison Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore) and Nancy Quinn (Merritt Island,FL/Merritt Island) have been selected, and will play for the United States Softball Team at the 11th Annual Holland Invitational Softball Tournament this summer. Held in Oldenzaal, Holland from June 11-21, the tournament features teams from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Belgium, the Netherland and Russia. The 14-player United States team will be coached by Chris Cannata, the head softball coach at the University of Albany. Tagliaferri is a two-time All-PSAC East selection and currently ranks first in the PSAC in home runs (5) and slugging percentage (.913). Her .431 batting average ranks among the conference leaders. Tagliaferri is also an outstanding pitcher for the Mountaineers with a 3-1 record on the season and 1.36 ERA. She has struck out 38 in 33.0 innings pitched this season. Quinn was an All-Regional selection in 2004 and currently ranks among the PSAC’s top hitters with a .509 batting average with 27 hits in 53 at-bats including six doubles and two triples.
