FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES SWEEP VIRGINIA UNION TO IMPROVE TO 11-1 ON SEASON

RICHMOND, VA – Kristen Dean threw a one-hitter in the opener and Christine Ross and Amy Martino combined for a one-hitter in the nightcap in pacing Mansfield to a 20-0, 11-0 sweep at Virginia Union Friday afternoon.

Dean allowed just a single in the third inning and struck out 10 in improving to 5-1 on the season. She was backed up by a 15-hit offensive attack led by Marissa Kosydar’s grand slam home run. Alexis Drebitko went 3-5 at the plate with Alison Tagliaferri tripling and driving in three runs.

In the nightcap, Christine Ross gave up just a first inning since and struck out 10 over the first four innings. Amy Martino struck out all three batters she faced in relief. Whitney Brown went 3-3 while Ross helped her own cause with a double and rbi while Stacy Dean went 2-4 with three runs batted in.

Mansfield improves to 11-1 on the season and travel to Livingstone College for a doubleheader on Saturday.
