FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES SWEEP IN SOFTBALL – MARTINO AND ROSS COMBINE FOR ONE-HITTER

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Kristen Dean threw a complete game shutout in the opener and Amy Martino and Christine Ross combined for a one-hitter in the nightcap as Mansfield beat the University of Charleston 11-0 and shutout Montreat College 8-0 at Myrtle Beach Tuesday.

Dean scattered seven hits while striking out seven in the win over Charleston. Mansfield broke open a scoreless tie with four runs in the third inning and seven more in the fourth. Tricia Bailey went 2-3 with a double and two RBI to lead the offense with Kris Kelly and Heather Long also hitting doubles.

Martino was perfect over the first three innings against Montreat, striking out seven. Ross allowed one hit over the last two innings. Heather Long and Shannon McDonnell each hit home runs while driving in two runs for Mansfield.

The Mountaineers improve to 5-1 overall and will play Bloomfield and Concord tomorrow.
