RELEASE DATE: 3/19/05 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: AMY MARTINO THROWS PERFECT GAME IN SWEEP OVER LIVINGSTONE – SENIOR STRIKES OUT 14 OF 15 BATTERS FACED SALISBURY, NC – Amy Martino threw a perfect game in the nightcap and Kristen Dean fired a one-hitter in the opener to lead Mansfield to a 12-0, 17-0 sweep over Livingstone College Saturday afternoon at Salisbury, NC. Both games ended early on the eight run rule. Martino was the definition of domination striking 14 of 15 batters she faced in the game including the first nine in a row. The only fair ball allowed was a ground out to Martino to start the fourth inning. She received solid support from her teammates who pounded out 16 hits with Heather Long going 3-5 with two triples and four RBI’s. Freshman Brittany Walker was 3-3 with three RBI while Tricia Bailey went 2-3 with a double, triple and two RBI’s. In the opener, Dean had a no-hitter for 4 2/3 innings before allowing a single to April Butler. She stuck out the next batter to end the game. Dean struck out 11 of the 17 batters she faced in improving to 6-1 on the season. The Mountaineers rapped out 15 hits with Kris Kelly going 3-3 with two doubles. Marissa Kosydar was 2-4 with three RBI’s. The Mountaineer improve to 13-1, the best start in school history. They open the PSAC East schedule when they travel to East Stroudsburg this coming Friday.
