RELEASE DATE: 4/06/05 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: TAGLIAFERRI PITCHES AND POWERS MOUNTIES TO 4-1 WIN OVER BLOOMSBURG IN OPENING GAME OF PSAC DOUBLEHEADER MANSFIELD – Alison Tagliaferri hit the game winning home run and threw a three-hitter to lead Mansfield to a 4-1 win over Bloomsburg in the opening game of a PSAC East doubleheader at Helen Lutes Field Wednesday afternoon. Bloomsburg’s Jamie Wilson best Mansfield Kristen Dean by throwing a perfect game in a 2-0 win in the nightcap. In the opener Tagliaferri held the Huskies hitless through the first six innings. Mansfield broke up a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth when Alexis Drebitko reached on a two-out double and scored on a single and, after Kris Kelly reached on a walk, scored on a single by Nancy Quinn. Tagliaferri then blasted a home run over the centerfield fence for the winning runs. Bloomsburg broke up Tagliaferri’s no-hit bid and shutout with three straight singles to open the inning before Tagliaferri retired the side on a pop-up, strikeout and fly out to center. Tagliaferri allowed just three hits while striking out five and walking one to earn her third win of the season. She was 2-3 with a home run and three RBI’s at the plate. Kris Kelly went 2-2. In the nightcap, Mansfield’s Kristen Dean and Bloomsburg’s Jamie Wilson locked up in a classic pitching dual. Dean held Bloomsburg scoreless for the first six innings before the Huskies plated two runs on a two-out error. Wilson kept the Mountaineer batters off balance all game striking out four batter. Mansfield is now 18-5-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the PSAC East.
