FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Field Hockey Falls 6-1 at Shippensburg
SHIPPENSBURG -- The #10 ranked Mountaineer field hockey team fell 6-1 against #2
ranked Shippensburg Wednesday afternoon at the Rob Sports Complex in
Shippensburg Wednesday afternoon.
Shippensburg took a 1-0 lead just under three minutes into the game on a goal by
Kimberly Davies. The Mountaineers would tie the game at 1-1 at the 13:59 mark
when freshman Breanne Tobin (Perkasie/Pennridge) scored her fourth
goal of the season off a pass from Keely Jarrett (Pennsburg/Upper
Perkiomen).
Mansfield
tackled a tremendously tough schedule at the beginning of the season, a schedule
that saw them playing on the road against five of the top six teams in the
nation including back-to-back games this week against #1 Bloomsburg and #2
Shippensburg. That road trip is almost complete now, with one more away game
scheduled for Saturday at #5 Kutztown, another team ranked higher than Mansfield
in the national rankings.
Briannna
DeLuca recorded 18 saves in goal.
The
Mounties will return from the Kutztown game just in time for their home opener
Sunday, September 17th against #7 ranked IUP.
