FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Rain fails to mar spirit and excitement of Joel Stephens Tournament on opening day Friday

MANSFIELD, Pa. -- The 11th annual Joel Stephens Invitational kicked off Friday with a host of four games played at Mansfield University's Shaute Field, Kelly Field and Smythe Park and Joel Stephens Field at Williamson High School.

A wave of rain showers over the area forced slight delays throughout the opening day of play, but when all was said and done only one game was suspended.

That game, between Williamsport and Montoursville, will be sandwiched into the middle of the day Saturday at Kelly Field. Saturday's games at Kelly Field have been bumped up an hour and will start at 8:00 a.m. Saturday's opening game at Shaute Field, between Bradford Country and the Brockville Bunnies, has also been bumped up to 8:00 a.m. There have been no other schedule changes.

In the nightcap at Shaute Field, darkness settled in and forced the conclusion of the Cherry Hill and Horseheads contest, ending the game in a 7-7 tie after regulation. That game will go into the books as an official tie, and if it factors into the divisional standings tournament tie-breaker rules will apply.

Big Flats emerged as the big winner on day one, winning both of its games to be the only team advancing to Saturday with a 2-0 record.

Division play will conlcude on Saturday, with the top two teams in each division advancing to Sunday's Championship rounds.
