FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield and Jersey Shore Highlight Day Two of Stephens Tournament with Two Wins Each Mansfield Mansfield and Jersey Shore each advanced to the top of their Divisions with two wins each in the first full day of play at the 9th Annual Joel Stephens Memorial Tournament Saturday afternoon. Mansfield pulled out a 5-3 win over Bath in a morning game behind Jake Hartz who picked up the win and went 2-3 from the plate. Mansfield added its second win of the day recording a 10-8 win over Vestal with Tyler Rumsey coming in relief with the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh to strikeout the final batter. Jersey Shore got a four-hit compete game shutout from Lance White in a 1-0 win over Fabius. Kyle Miller threw allowed no earned runs and just two hits while striking out 10 in a 5-1 win over Conneaut. Horseheads finished out its pool play at 2-1 after rallying for two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score and won the game in on a squeeze bunt by Tim Harvey to pull out a 6-5 win over Lansing. Twelve games are scheduled for Sunday to wrap up pool play with the four division winners advancing to the Joel Stephens Championship on Monday. The runner-up in each division will play in the Josh Palmer Championship also on Monday.

Jake Hartz led Mansfield with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate and picked up the win on the mound as Mansfield defeated Bath 5-3 Saturday morning at Kelly Field.
Mansfield exploded for four runs in the third inning to take the lead for good as Bath could not respond.
Hartz went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and picked up four strikeouts on the mound. Tim Shaw went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Cody Thomas and Tyler Rumsey each recorded RBIs.
Montana Yastremski picked up the loss for Bath allowing five runs on nine hits. Matt Whedbee led Bath with a 3-for-3 performance with one RBI while Brett Havens recorded one RBI with two hits including a double.
Mansfield starts the 07 Tournament at 1-0 in the Hunter/Jones Division while Bath begins at 0-1 in the division.

Corning Red (4) vs. Elmira Heights (5) Shaute Field
Bryan Ramich ripped a two RBI single to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning to propel Elmira Heights to a 5-4 victory over Corning Red at Shaute Field on Saturday morning.
Ramich led EH with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate with a double and two RBI while Brandon Maskers picked up the win on the mound after throwing a complete game and recording eight strikeouts. Brian Poppleton and Mike Marsh each added RBIs for Elmira Heights in the win.
Aaric Ross took the heartbreaking loss for Corning Red after carrying a 4-3 lead into the seventh. Ross racked up six strikeouts in the contest.
Travis Rosenwinkel and Kyle Edmister each recorded doubles for Corning while Kevin Childs, Mike Watters, and Ross recorded an RBI.
Heights begins the tournament with a 1-0 mark in the Naylor/Dobson division while Corning starts things off at 0-1.

Greece (12) vs. Horseheads (2) Stephens Field
Greece exploded in the second inning with six runs to take the lead and never look back in trouncing Horseheads 12-2 at Stephens Field in Tioga Saturday morning.
Greece piled on six more runs in the fifth inning with the help of Mike Lagona and Jason Nevada who each recorded two RBI while four other players from the Greece squad added RBI.
Jason Nevada picked up the win on the mound allowing just two runs on four hits. Nevada helped his cause going 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and two stolen bases.
Anthony Baccile picked up the loss for Horseheads after allowing seven runs in four innings of work.
Greece kicks off tournament play with a 1-0 record in the Palmer/Henneman Division while Horseheads falls to 1-1 in the division.

Lance White ended up on the better end of a tightly contest pitching duel picking up a 1-0 win for Jersey Shore over Fabius on Saturday afternoon at Shaute Field.
High drama came into play in the bottom of the sixth inning with the game still tied at 0-0 when a passed ball allowed Jersey Shore to get one run in. Fabius battled back in the top of the seventh inning, loading the bases with only one out.
White bore down and recorded the final two outs of the inning without allowing a run with the help of a great over the head catch by shortstop Derek Smith and a routine ground out to third baseman Tyler Denneker.
Ryan June picked up a tough loss allowing only one run on four hits.
Jersey Shore begins the tournament with a 1-0 record in the Heaps/Heaps division while Fabius begins at 0-1.

Corning Gray (1) vs. Corning Red (3) Kelly Field Corning red bounced back from a tough loss in their opening game to upset the senior squad from Corning, downing the Gray team 3-1 at Kelly Field Saturday afternoon Mike Speroni picked up the win for the Red squad after throwing six shutout innings and striking out five. Travis Rosenwinkel allowed one run in the seventh and picked up the save. Dan Telehany picked up the loss for the Gray squad after throwing the complete game allowing three runs and striking out six batters. Matt Smith picked up a triple to lead the Red team at the plate while Brandon Lewis recorded a double for the Gray squad. No RBI were recorded in the game as the Gray squad picked up six errors with the Red squad adding one error. Corning Red moves to 1-1 in divisional play in the Naylor/Dobson division while Corning Gray starts the tournament at 0-1 in divisional play.

Big Flats took advantage of two Bath errors in the bottom of the sixth to score three runs and take a 4-2 lead into the seventh inning for Colin Yaniga to close out the win at Shaute Field on Saturday afternoon. Yaniga went the distance on the mound striking out four batters and allowing five hits in the win. Mike Rossi went the distance for Bath picking up the loss after striking out five and allowing only two earned runs. Sean Lyke was the hot spot on the Bath roster as the seven hitter went 3-for-3 with the lone Bath RBI. Dylan Shope was 2-for-2 with two runs scored for Big Flats while Keith Cummings went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Big Flats begins the 2007 tournament with a 1-0 mark in the Hunter Jones division while Bath falls to 0-2 in the division.

Mansfield exploded early to take a 9-0 advantage but Vestal would fight back in dramatic fashion falling just short in a 10-8 loss at Kelly Field on Saturday afternoon. Vestal loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning but Tyler Rumsey held tough on the Mound for Mansfield and struck out the final batter of the game to secure the 10-8 victory as Mansfield improved to 2-0 in divisional play. In perhaps the heaviest hitting game of the tournament thus far, Mansfield exploded for 17 hits including an impressive third inning that saw Mansfield score seven runs, highlighted by a three run homerun by Levi Weiskopff. Weiskopff was helping his own cause as he picked up the win on the mound after throwing into the seventh inning. Tom Rozelle picked up the loss for Vestal after throwing the complete game. Jake Hartz continued his impressive play batting two runs in while Pat Clark also recorded two RBI. Mansfield would also get RBI from Cody Thomas, Brian Strange, and Tyrell Fuller. The 17 Mansfield hits took the attention off of seven errors committed by the Mansfield squad during the contest. Mike Danaher led Vestal at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance and a game-high four RBI. Jeremy Baitz and Tim Lewis each recorded RBI for Vestal. With the win, Mansfield improves their divisional record to 2-0 in the Hunter/Jones division while Vestal kicks off the 2007 tournament with a 0-1 start.

Mike Moran weaved a gem for Fabius allowing three hits and one run in a complete game 7-1 victory over Hornell at Stephens Field on Saturday afternoon. Moran went the distance recording five strikeouts and giving up just one run in the sixth inning. Eric Davidson picked up the loss for Hornell after allowing nine hits and seven runs in the outing. Bob Mason and Matt McPhearson each recorded two hits for Fabius while Lane Warner belted a triple. Mason and Warner each recorded two RBI while Moran and Jake Newton added the other RBI for Fabius. Aiden Shaw picked up the only extra-base hit for Hornell with a triple. Fabius moves to 1-1 in the Heaps/Heaps division while Hornell starts the tournament at 0-1 in the division.

The Bradford County All-Stars, runners up last year, began this seasons tournament with a 5-2 victory over Jersey Shore at Stephens Field on Saturday evening. Derick Otis pitched a complete game win for Bradford allowing seven hits and two runs while Mike Marsh picked up the loss for Elmira Heights allowing five runs on 12 hits. Bradford got RBI from Jacob Schucker, Jared Johnson, Otis, and Eric Wells who led the team with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Chris Jacobs recorded the lone RBI for Elmira Heights while Mike Marsh recorded the lone extra-base hit with a triple. Bradford begins divisional play at 1-0 in the Naylor/Dobson while Elmira Heights drops to 1-1 in divisional play.

Horseheads (6) vs. Lansing (5) Shaute Field Tim Harvey laid down a perfect sacrifice squeeze bunt as Nick Cafolla charged down the line to slide in under the tag and score the winning run as Horseheads picked up a thrilling 6-5 win over Lansing in the bottom of the seventh inning at Shaute Field on Saturday evening. Horseheads looked to lock it up in the top of the seventh but Lansing would rally with two outs to tie the game at 5-5 forcing Horseheads to take their cuts in the bottom of the inning.
Jersey Shore (5) vs. Conneaut (1) Kelly Field Jersey Shore picked up their second win of the day when they pulled away from Conneaut in the early stages of their contest to secure a 5-1 victory on Saturday evening at Kelly Field. Kyle Miller went the distance for Jersey Shore picking up the win after allowing no earned runs on two hits with 10 strikeouts. Tyler Rice picked up the loss for Conneaut allowing five runs, two earned, and 11 hits with three strikeouts. Derek Smith led Jersey Shore with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate while Jake Potter went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Tyler Danneker went 2-for-2 after pinch hitting in the fifth inning. Gregory Motter recorded both of Conneauts hits in the contest with a 2-for-3 day at the plate. With the win, Jersey Shore moves to 2-0 in divisional play in the Heaps/Heaps division while Conneaut starts the tournament at 0-1 in divisional play.
