DAY TWO

MANSFIELD – Day two of the Joel Stephens Invitational started at 9:00am on Sunday morning and continued throughout the day with 12 more games being played. A slight rain delay was issued during the 2:30 games, but play would continue and all games would be completed. With pool play now over, the field is set for the Stephens and the Palmer Semi-Finals tomorrow. The Montreal Titans finished pool play 3-0, scoring 34 runs and giving up only three. Joining them in the undefeated column is Lamm Post from New York. Lamm finished out their day by defeating Brockville (Canada) to advance to the Stephens Semi-Finals. Locally, Horseheads and Bradford will also advance to the Stephens Semi-Finals. The Josh Palmer Semi-Finals consists of the runners-up in each division. Brockville will join Mansfield, Titusville, and Greece (NY) in the Semi-Finals. Also, Conneaut will play Northern Tioga at Stephens Field at 10:00am as both teams agreed to play one more game. BIG FLATS       1

LAMM POST    3

In a 9 a.m. game at Shaute Field, Lamm’s Brian Wolf out dueled Dylan Shope of Big Flats in a 3-1 win for Lamm Post. Wolf struck out 12 while scattering five hits enroute the complete game victory. Shope, who also went the distance, also scattered five hits. 

CONNEAUT     4

MANSFIELD    6

In a 9 a.m. game at Kelly Field, Levi Weiskopff drove in three runs and Cody Garrison plated two as Mansfield topped Conneaut 6-4. Tyler Rumsey struck out 10 and walked only one in earning the win. Mansfield finishes pool play with a 2-1 record and clinches a second place finish in their division. Mansfield will play in the Josh Palmer Semi-Finals.

LANSING                     10

NORTHERN TIOGA     0

In a 9 a.m. game at Joel Stephens Field, Lansing pounded out 10 runs to blank Northern Tioga and eliminate them from the tournament. Lansing was eliminated from the tournament based on the tiebreak of runs allowed, and Northern Tioga was also eliminated.

BATH                          0

MONTREAL               9

In an 11:30 a.m. game at Shaute Field, a pitching duel was broke open when Montreal scored four runs in the fourth inning to break open a scoreless game. The Titans from Montreal would continue their offensive surge through the sixth and seventh inning adding four more to secure the 8-0 victory over Bath. Montreal relied on the bats of Emelio Panpena and R.J. Leibovitch as they each had a triple and an RBI. Also getting in on the action were Adam Gordon, Scott Weston, and Jared Goodman, all hitting doubles and picking up RBI’s. Eric Foster threw a complete game two hitter to earn the win for Montreal while Sean Eaton was credited with the loss for Bath.

BRADFORD               7

CORNING                  4

In an 11:30 a.m. game at Kelly Field, Bradford pitcher Mike Martin threw a tournament-leading 15 strikeouts to pick up the win for Bradford over Corning. Bradford improved to 2-0 in their first game. Jamie Philippi and Anthony Vilanti belted doubles for Bradford while Brandon Carr, Preston Hitchcock, and Jacob Shucker all had RBI's. Bernard Johnson III was credited with the loss for Corning. Ben Geist and Chris Huyett each had doubles for Corning Corning was eliminated from tournament play.

TITUSVILLE               3

MONTROSE              7

In an 11:30 a.m. game at Joel Stephens Field, Montrose defeated Titusville 7-3. Jordan Smith earned the win on the mound while Tyler Guerra was credited with the loss for Titusville. Bill Laubach picked up the save for Montrose. Chevus Turner and Justin Lavo each had doubles for Montrose with Lavo leading the way with two RBI's. K.C. Palmer had a double for Titusville. Montrose still was eliminated after their win.

HORSEHEADS           1

GREECE                     2     final – 8 innings

In a 2:30 p.m. game at Shaute Field, pitching took center stage as seven innings concluded with a 1-1 tie. Horseheads failed to score in the eighth inning with International tiebreak rules. Greece picked up one run in the bottom of the eighth when Jack Padalino rapped out a single over the shortstop’s head to secure the victory for Greece, keeping their tournament hopes alive. Horseheads secured first place in the division and will play in the Stephens semi-finals.

MONTREAL             20

CONNEAUT              1

In a 2:30 p.m. game at Kelly Field, the Montreal Titans put on an impressive offensive display putting up 20 runs in only five innings. The titans got out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back. Jared Goodman was credited with the win on the mound while John Fortune took the loss. Three Montreal players hit homeruns in the contest, including two three run shots by Olivier Bertrand and Emilio Pampena. Adam Gordon also had a two run homerun. Montreal finished pool play with 34 runs scored and only 3 given up to secure first place in their division and a spot in the Semi-Finals.

ELMIRA HEIGHTS    10

BIG FLATS                 0

In a 2:30 p.m. game at Joel Stephens Field, Elmira Heights defeated Big Flats 10-0. Both teams were eliminated from the tournament.

BRADFORD               2

TITUSVILLE               0

In a 6 p.m. game at Shaute Field, Bradford’s Kayle Sickler threw a complete game three hitter to pick up the win for Bradford clinching the division for them. Sickler threw 12 strikeouts in the game. At the plate, Cory Raupers was 3-4 with an RBI to lead to Bradford All-Stars. K.C. Palmer was credited with the loss after throwing a complete game and giving up two runs. Titusville clinched a second place finish in the division and will play in the Palmer Semi-Finals.

BROCKVILLE         3

LAMM POST           6

In a 6 p.m. game at Kelly Field, two undefeated teams battled for first place in their division. Lamm Post tacked on three runs in the top of the seventh to secure a 6-3 win over Brockville and a spot in the Stephens Semi-Final. Frank Peri threw a complete game to get the win for Lamm while Jordan Herbison was credited with the loss for Brockville. Jesse Jerzewski had two RBI's for Lamm while Mike Ferguson, Derek Wiser, and Nick Kanutsu each added one RBI. Jerzewski's two RBI's came at an opportune time as he was a pinch hitter in the top of the seventh, rapping out a two run single to secure the win. Lamm Post will play in the Stephens Semi-Final while Brockville will play in the Palmer Semo-Final.

GREECE                                 3

NORTHERN TIOGA              2

In a 6 p.m. game at Joel Stephens Field, Greece secured their spot in the Palmer Semi-Final with a 3-2 win over Northern Tioga. Greece needed to give up 0 runs in order to win their division according the tiebreak rules, but finished second to Horseheads after giving up two runs to Northern Tioga. Northern Tioga was eliminated from the tournament but will play Conneaut Ohio tomorrow at 10:00am at Stephens Field for one more game. Greece moves on to the Palmer Sem-Finals.
