Day 4

MANSFIELD – Brockville, Greece and Syracuse all won their Division Sunday to join Corning Grey in the championship round of the Joel Stephens Invitational Tournament. Bradford County, Horseheads, Bath and Conneaut (OH) will vie for the runner-up Josh Palmer Champions as divisional play came to an end late Sunday night.

Corning will play Brockville at noon at Shaute Field in a Stephens semi-final game with Syracuse taking on Greece at Kelly Field also at noon. The winners will meet for the seventh annual Stephens Championship at 3 p.m.

In the Josh Palmer Championship, Horseheads will take on Bath at Kelly Field at 9 am with Bradford County facing Conneaut at Shaute Field also at 9 am. The winners will meet for the Palmer Championship at noon at Williamson High School Field.

BROCKVILLE  3

LAMM POST   2 (9)

In a 9 a.m. game at Shaute Field, Brockville scored on a sacrifice fly by Jeff Osler in the top of the ninth to edge Lamm Post 3-2. John Brus went the distance on the mound for Brockville, scattering six hits and striking out six. For Lamm Post, Rob Maxwell hit a home run and pitched the last four innings in relief, giving up only one hit and striking out 8 in taking the tough luck loss.

FERRIS-GOODRIDGE  6

OWEGO                          2

In a 9 a.m. at Kelly Field in Smythe Park, Ferris-Goodridge downed Owego 6-2 behind the pitching of Mason Biggs who went six and a third innings, allowing four hits and striking out 7.  Dan Higgins had two hits and drove in a run for Ferris-Goodridge.

MONTROSE            5

F.M.S. GENERALS 2

In an 11:30 a.m. game at Shaute Field, Montrose scored five runs on six hits to top the F.M.S. Generals 5-2. Jesse Tyler went 2-3 and drove in three of the Montrose runs. Aaron Taylor pitched a complete game, striking out 13 for the win.

GREECE                     2

N. TIOGA                   0

In an 11:30 a.m. at Kelly Field in Smythe Park, Greece broke open a scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to edge Northern Tioga 2-0. Justin Hewitt threw a two-hitter, striking out six to earn the victory.

SYRACUSE                5

OWEGO                     0

Syracuse improved to 2-0 in the tournament with Matt Davis and JJ Potrikas combining for a four hit shutout in a 5-0 win over Owego. Brent Nicholson had a double and drove in two runs.

HORSEHEADS           2

N. TIOGA                   1

In a 3 p.m. game at Shaute Field, Horsheads earned a berth in the Josh Palmer Championship by finishing second in the Palmer/Henneman Division rallying for a 2-1 win over N. Tioga. Greece, Horseheads and Mansfield all tied with  2-1 division mark with Greece advancing to the Joel Stephens Champions and Horseheads to Palmer Champions on the tie breaker of allowing fewer runs. Tony Battisti plated both Horseheads runs with a single in the fifth inning.

BRADFORD               7

MONTROSE              1

Bradford County finished second in Naylor/Dobson Division and advanced to the Josh Palmer Championship with a 7-1 over Montrose.

BATH                                      9

FERRIS-GOODRICH             7

Bath rallied from 3-0 down and then held off  Ferris-Goodrich who loaded the bases will two outs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 9-7 win.

CONNEAUT              4

LAMM POST             0

Conneaut earned a spot in the Josh Palmer Championship with a 4-0 over 2004 Joel Stephens Champion Lamm Post. Andy Carter threw a complete game two-hitter for Conneaut.

SYRACUSE                9

BATH                          0

In a game to decide the winner of the Hunter/Jones Division, Syracuse shut out Bath by a score of 9-0 with Justin White strucking out 7 batters over four innings to get the win. Bath earned a berth in the Josh Palmer Championship while Syracuse will play in the Joel Stephens Championship.
