Day Two

 

No-Hitters Highlight Day Two of Joel Stephens Tournament

 

MANSFIELD – No hitters by Pat McAnaney of Camillus and Greg Card of Owego were the highlights of the 11-game day two of the Joel Stephens Invitational Tournament Saturday in Mansfield and Blossburg.

 

It was a tough day for local teams Elmira Heights and Corning Grey.  Elmira Heights lost twice in a 3-1 setback to Moscow and 2-0 loss to Lamm-Post. Corning also dropped to 0-2 in the tournament with a 13-2 loss to Bellefonte. Horseheads improved to 1-1 in the Palmer/Henneman Division with a 15-2 win over Tri-Town, scoring nine runs in the first inning. Danny Schuller went the distance with Mark Carlson going 3-4. Jeff Paul had two doubles and three rbi’s.

 

Bradford County moved to the top of the Naylor/Dobson Division with a 9-1 victory over FMS Generals. Mansfield fell short to Hollidaysburg 4-2, before improving to 2-1 with an 13-2 win over Tri-Town. Kevin Hill struck out 11 for Mansfield in the loss. Shawn Weiand got the win for Hollidaysburg and also went 2-4 with a double and two rbi’s. William Koernig got the win against Tri-Town scattering seven hits and striking out five. Kevin Hill went 2-3 with three RBI’s. Rob Brant and Will Osgood each doubled.

 

In the Hunter/Jones division, Camillus is the leader after a 5-0 shutout victory over Ferris-Goodridge who later defeated Owego 7-6 in nine innings.

 

Ontario improved to 2-0 in the tournament with a 9-4 win over Moscow to lead in the Heaps/Heaps division.

 

Play will continue on Sunday with 10 games. The winners of each division will meet on Monday for the Joel Stephens Championship with the runner-ups in each division playing for the Josh Palmer Championship.
