FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: AFTER TWO DAYS OF COMPETITION, ELIMRA HEIGHTS IS 2-0, THE TIOGA ALL-STARS ARE 2-0, CORNING IS 2-1, AND HORNELL IS 2-1

MANSFIELD-

In the 9 a.m. game at Shaute Field Owego Post 401 defeated Bath Post 173 12-0.  The game was called after the fifth inning on a count of the mercy rule.  Owego jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and never looked back winning by a score of 12-0.  Josh Norris went the distance for Owego allowing one hit and striking out five.  Bath’s Derek Brown managed their lone single in the first inning.  First baseman Bill Gibson led the offensive attack for Owego going three for three, with three doubles, six RBI, and one run scored. Center fielder Jeremy Chatt also added two RBI and scored two runs.  Matt Herrick suffered the loss for Bath.

At Williamson High School Hornell defeated Endwell Post 1700 by a score of 11-2.  Endwell posted the lone run in the third that held through the fifth until Hornell exploded in the fifth for seven.  Hornell then added four more runs in the sixth.  Mike Bassage went the distance for Endwell, scattering eight hits and striking out 15.  Jamie Rose, last year’s tournament MVP, led the way for Hornell with two hits, including a three run HR.  J.P. Touhey took the loss for Endwell.

In the 9 a.m. game at Williamson, the Tioga All-Stars defeated Montrose Post 154, 6-5.  Montrose led the game 2-0, 2-1, and 3-1, before Tioga scored once in the sixth, and went ahead with four runs in the seventh.  William Osgood got the win for Tioga with the save going to Gary Ball.  Seth Button suffered the loss for Montrose.  Going into the top of the seventh Montrose commanded a 5-2 lead.  Tioga rallied with five hits, including three doubles to go ahead.  Montrose threatened in the bottom of the seventh after Seth Button doubled and went to third on a wild-pitch, before Gary Ball ended the game with a strike out.  Tioga advances to 2-0 in the tournament.

The Nepean Knights defeated Corning Post 746 (Gray), 6-5, in the 11 a.m. game at Kelly Field.  After trailing the whole game by scores of 4-2 and 4-3 Corning scored two runs in the top half of the seventh to go ahead 5-4.  Nepean rallied in the bottom half to post two runs and take the win.  Tyler Boshart singled in Ryan Jacks for the Knights fifth run and Leigh Lacroix scored the winning sixth run on a bases loaded walk.  Nepean’s Adam DiTota recorded the win while Nate Matusick is credited with the loss.

In the second game of the day at Shaute Field Elmira Heights Post 154 defeated the Bellefonte Bandits 7-2.  Bellefonte jumped out to an early 1-0 lead and added another run in the top of the third before Elmira Heights erupted for seven runs on five hits in the bottom half of the third.  This would carry them through, with Ryan Marsh picking up the win.  Marsh scattered seven hits over seven innings, walking three, and striking out eight.  Todd Orndorf recorded the loss for the Bandits.  Ryan Marsh helped his own cause going 2-4 with a double, single, RBI, and one run scored.

In the 3:00 pm game at Williamson High School the FMS Generals defeated the Nepean Knights, 6-5.  FMS led 4-1 going into the seventh inning, before allowing four runs in the top of the seventh.  FMS came back though adding two in the bottom of the seventh, to win 6-5.  Larry Cassidy recorded the win for FMS, while Robin Mish suffered the loss.

In game three at Shaute, Ferris-Goodridge Post 330 defeated Horseheads Post 442 by a score of 12-2.  The mercy rule was invoked after the sixth inning.  Horseheads managed to put up two runs in the second, but this wouldn’t prove to be enough as Ferris-Goodridge put up one in the fifth, two in the first, second, and fifth and finally added five the sixth.  Chris Daley recorded the win for Ferris-Goodridge, while the loss gets credited to Dan Schuller of Horseheads.

In the afternoon game at Kelly Field Hornell defeated Montrose by a score of 11-0, in five innings.  Ryan White threw all five innings for Hornell, got the win, and struck out eight.

In the final game of the day at Kelly Field Elmira Heights defeated Moscow 12-4.  Elmira scored in every inning, with their game high being three runs scored in the third.  Tyler Manchester picked up the victory for Elmira.  Ryan Stroman led the offensive for Elmira with two doubles and four RBI.

In the final game of the day at Shaute Field Corning Post 746 defeated the FMS Generals by a score of 4-0.  Lennon Rubin went the distance for Corning, throwing a four hit shut-out, recording three strike-outs, and walking one walk.  The offensive star for Corning was Brad Johnson, who went 3-3 with a double and two RBI.  Jack Weaver is credited with the loss for FMS.

In the final game of the day from Williamson High School, the Bellefonte Bandits defeated Canadaigua Post 256, 6-3.  Jordann Wagner got the win for Bellefonte, while Matthew Chapman carried a no-hitter into the fifth in the losing effort for Canadaigua.  Chapman recorded eight strikeouts in the game.  Bellefonte’s Dustin Maxwell hit a bases loaded two out double in the bottom of the sixth to put Bellefonte ahead.
