CORNING, FERRIS GOODRICH, ELMIRA HEIGHTS, TIOGA COUNTY WIN DIVISIONS TO EARN BERTH’S IN JOEL STEPHENS CHAMPIONSHIP BERTHS --
MANSFIELD – Corning, Ferris-Goodridge, Elmira Heights, and Tioga won their divisions to advance to the semi-final round in the Joel Stephens Wooden Bat Invitational Tournament. The semi-final round games will begin Sunday at 9 a.m.. Tioga and Elmira both went 3-0 in divisional play, while Corning and Ferris-Goodridge were 2-1. Tioga and Elmira advance to the Stephens championship round for the first time in the tournaments five years, and Ferris-Goodridge is last years tournament runner-up. Corning moves into the championship bracket of the Stephens tournament for the second time in tournament history.

In a 9 a.m. game at Kelly Field at Smythe Park, Mark Carlson singled in the winning run for Horseheads in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ryan Yearick led off the inning with a base hit and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Matt Manganaro. Yearick then scored on the hit by Carlson. Derik Wandell scatted six hits to pick up the win for Horseheads. Carlson had two rbi’s with Andy Bandvelt adding another. Jeremy Chatt allowed just four hits in taking the loss with Owego committing three errors. Ryan Ceruti doubled in drove in a run with Justin Larson credited with an rbi.
ENDWELL 2
MONTROSE 1
In a 9 a.m. game at Shaute Field, Endwell scored both of their runs in the first inning on an error and basehit. Montrose closed the game to a run with a solo run in the third inning.
CANANDAIGUA 12
MOSCOW 3
At Kelly Field, Brad Maltman and Kurt Jung team up for a shutout. Maltman struck out eight and gave up just two runs in a game called in the sixth inning by the 10 run rule. Kellen Shepard had a triple and three rbi’s. Jung added a double and three rbi’s. Kevin Powell had a double for Moscow.
NEPEAN 5
ATHENS 0
Steve DeRouis scattered three hits and struck out eight in throwing a shutout. Nepean scored all five runs in the third inning helped by two Athens errors. Mark Breton and Ryan Jacks each had rbi single. Nate White gave up five hits and struck out seven in taking the loss.

CANANDAIGUA 5
Elmira Heights scored all in 11 runs over the first four innings to beat Canadaigua and win the the Heaps/Heaps Division to advance to the semi-finals of the Stephens Turnament. Patrick Duffy picked up the win with Josh Hammer going 2-4 with a double, triple and two rbi’s. Jeremy Peck was 2-4 with an rbi. Padden Frenney led Canandaigua going 2-4 with a triple and rbi.
TIOGA COUNTY 18
ENDWELL 3
Tioga County exploded for nine runs in the first inning to earn their first berth in the Stephens Championship round with a 18-3 win over Endewell in 4 ½ innings. Tioga County won the Palmer/Henneman Division with a 3-0 record and will play in the Stephens semi-finals at noon on Sunday at Kelly Field.
Rob Brant went 3-4 with two doubles and a triple, including a double and triple in the nine run first inning. Zach Stager went 2-3 with a triple with Ian McLelland going 3-4 for Tioga. Matt Tallon had a double and two rbi for Endwell.
FERRIS-GOODRIDGE 8
OWEGO 6
Robert Lawler went 2-3 with three rbi’s and Michael Palermo had a double and two rbi’s to lead Ferris-Goodridge to a 8-6 win over Owego and win the Naylor/Dobson Division. Owego was plagued by errors that led to eight unearned runs. Josh Norris had two hits to lead Owego.
BELLEFONTE 15
MOSCOW 5
Bellefonte jumped out to an early 10-0 lead in the first inning. Not to be deterred Moscow fought back and closed the game to 10-5, only to give up five more runs in the bottom of the fifth. The game was called in the bottom of the fifth due to the 10 run mercy rule.
FMS GENERALS 5
ATHENS 3
FMS defeated Athens by a score of 5-3. Trailing 3-0, Athens came back to tie it at 3-3 in the top of the sixth. FMS scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to win 5-3.
