FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mike Gray and Nicole Yost named Mansfield University Men’s and Women’s Spring Athlete of the Year

MANSFIELD – Mansfield University standouts Mike Gray (Horseheads,NY/Horseheads) and Nicole Yost (Antes Fort/Jersey Shore) have been named Mansfield University Male and Female Spring Athletes of the Year.

A junior, Gray overcame an early season injury to win the discus (161-08) and the shot put (5-03.50) at the PSAC Championship. He also finished seventh in the hammer throw with a school-record heave of 165-10.

It marked the second straight season Gray was crowned the PSAC men’s outdoor discus champion. He also became the first Mountaineer to be named PSAC Championship Field Athlete of the Meet and went on to finish 11^th at the NCAA Division II National Championship meet in San Angelo, TX. It marked the third time he has earned MU Athlete of the Year honors.

A sophomore outfielder, Yost helped the Mountaineer to their first-ever PSAC playoff berth by leading the team in batting average (.316), hits (31), runs (24), home runs (9), RBI (23), slugging percentage (.643) and on-base percentage.

Yost started all 32 games this season tying the school-record for home runs and earned first team All-PSAC Central honors.
