FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Clarissa Correll and Joe Stanek named 2008 Fall Female and Male Athlete of the Year
MANSFIELD Ė Senior Clarissa Correll and sophomore Joe Stanek have been named the 2008 Mansfield University Fall Female and Male Athlete of the Year. The announcement was made at the recent Fall Sports Banquet.
Stanek was the top runner all season long on the menís cross-country team.
In the first meet of the season, Joe finished first at the Seagull Open in Salisbury, MD.
He followed that with a second place overall finish at the CTC Championship helping his teammate in capturing the team championship in the process.
Joe, the teamís top runner all season long, just missed earning All-PSAC at the PSAC Championship finishing 23rd overall and improved on that with a 20th place finish at the NCAA Division East Championship in Slippery Rock.
Stanek is also a PSAC and MU Presidential Scholar-Athlete.
Correll was the only Mansfield male or female cross country runner to earn All-PSAC honors this season.
At the PSAC Championship at Lock Haven, Correll ran the best race of her career to finish 15th overall becoming just the third womenís runner in Mansfield cross country history to earn all-conference recognition. Her time of 22:05 was the third fastest time run on any cross country course in school history.
Correll used her determination to improve steadily throughout the season including a second place overall finish at the 15 team CTC Championship.
Also a standout on the womenís basketball team, Clarissa is just as successful in the classroom earning MU Presidential and PSAC Scholar-athlete recognition.
