RELEASE DATE: 1/24/2004 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: THREE SCHOOL RECORDS FALL AT SUSQUEHANNA UNIVERSITY INVITATIONAL Selings Grove – The Women’s and Men’s Indoor Track & Field teams combined for a total of three new school records Saturday at Susquehanna University. Senior Steph Cadwell (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls), sophomore Charity Learn (Troy/North Penn), and freshman Chris Cummings (Mansfield/Mansfield) all posted record breaking times.
Cadwell cruised to a new school record finish of 61.89 in the 400 meter run, breaking the previous record of 1:02.37. This record had stood for three years. Cadwell’s mark currently ranks her the fourth best time thus far this season in the PSAC and qualifies her for the PSAC championships. Charity Learn continues right where she left off last season and broke her own school record of 18:09.22 for the 5,000 meter run, by posting a time of 18:05. Learn set the previous mark in 2003. Freshman Rachel Hall finished right behind learn with a time of 18:18. Learn and Hall both met the qualifying mark of 19:30, to compete at the PSAC championships. After an impressive Cross County season freshman Chris Cummings continues to excel. Cummings set a new school best mark in men’s 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:12. Cummings beat all collegiate athletes at the meet in this event. Chris shattered the previous school record time of 15:22, set in 1990 by Charles Strobel. Junior Josh Wooten (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) ran a very impressive 5,000 meter race of his own, finishing right behind Cummings with a time of 15:21. Wooten and Cumming’s times qualify them both for the PSAC Championships. The men’s and women’s Indoor Track & Field teams will be back in action next Friday night, when they travel to Bucknell University. |
