FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ADAM STAIER WINS JUNIOR 10K
RACEWALK AT PENN RELAYS – LAUREN OLIVIERI TAKES FOURTH IN 5K RACEWALK
PHILADELPHIA – Freshman Adam Staier (Farmington,ME/Mt.
Blue) continued his impressive season by winning the 10K Junior
Racewalking title at the Penn Relays early Saturday morning.
Staier easily bested the field of seven walkers with a time
of 46:30.59, finishing more than 15 seconds ahead of his nearest rival. He
becomes the first Mountaineer track participant to win an individual title at
the Penn Relays.
Richard Correll (Mansfield/Mansfield)
was sixth in the event with a time of 54:20.58.
Mansfield won three mile relay titles at the Penn Relays
in 1916 (Irvin Frances, Kim Marvin, Grant Carpenter and T. Foley), 1919 (Warren
L. Miller, Elmer Vosburgh, Forrest Richards, Alfred Sayre) and 1920 (Strange,
Richards, Boyle and Collier).
In the women’s Junior 5k racewalk, Mansfield’s Lauren
Olivieri (Hauppauge,NY/Hauppauge) was fourth in a field of 16 with a
time of 26:53.56. It marks the highest individual performance for a Mountaineer
female participant at the Penn Relays.
Both Staier and Olivieri broke the existing school records
with their performances.
