RELEASE DATE: 2/21/04 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: TRACK & FIELD SETS FIVE SCHOOL RECORDS AT DENEAULT MEMORIAL Ithaca, NY- Mansfield’s men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams’ literally finished the regular season in record book style at Cornell. Mansfield qualified athletes in eight different events and broke five school records on the day. Senior Steph Cadwell (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) led the way for the women’s program setting four school records. Cadwell broke the previous school marks in the 200 dash (26.81), 400 dash (60.23), triple jump (36’ 2.25”), and long jump (16’ 7”). “Steph had probably the best day in history for a Mansfield women’s track & field athlete,” said head coach Mike Rohl. Cadwell has now set new school marks in the 200, 400, 500, 800, long jump, and triple jump on the season, and is qualified for the PSAC indoor championships in the 200, 400, 800, long jump, and triple jump. Adding to her already impressive day, Cadwell also anchored the 4x800 relay team which finished 1st overall with a time of 10:12.40. Sharing in the victory were Amber Hamlin (Troy), Teresa Stanford (Downingtown/Coatsville), and Rachel Hall (Blue Ridge/New Milford). Senior Teresa Stanford qualified for the PSAC championships in the mile run in her final attempt. She finished with a time of 5:32.54 which was good enough for a 6 second PR. With a time of 2:24.65 in the 800 Rachel Hall qualified for the PSAC championships. Teammate Kristin Weller (New Milford, CT) also posted a qualifying time in the 3K run finishing in 11:06.26. On the men’s side freshman Chris Cummings (Mansfield/Mansfield) set the fifth school record on the day. Cummings finished the 800 in 1:56.98. This was good enough for third place overall and the time is currently the best posted in the PSAC this season. Freshman James Painter (Lebanon) and Jaymes Crain (Canton/Canton) both posted qualifying times in today’s meet. Crain’s time of 23.38 in the 200 will earn him the honor, and Painter’s 400 time of 52.69 also met the minimum. Both finished ninth overall in their events. Junior Josh Wooten (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) got into the action, taking second place overall in the mile run with a time of 4:27.12. Graduating senior Jordann Smith (Roslyn, PA/Abington Sr.) finished the day with two PR’s, in the 400 (52.88) and in the 200 (24.04). Smith will run at the conference championships in the 4x400 relay. “Overall we had an outstanding day,” said Rohl, “we set 37 PR’s and will take 12 athletes to the conference championships in 16 different individual events.” The following athletes have qualified and will be competing in individual events next week at the PSAC Indoor championships.
The PSAC Championships will be held at East Stroudsburg University next Saturday and Sunday. |
