FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MANSFIELD’S CHRIS CUMMINGS NAMED PSAC CROSS-COUNTRY ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

LOCK HAVEN – Freshman Chris Cummings (Mansfield/Mansfield) was rewarded for his outstanding season by being selected the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Cross-Country Male Rookie of the Year. The awards, voted upon by the conference head coaches, were released today by the PSAC office in Lock Haven.

“It’s a great and well deserved honor for Chris,” said head coach Michael Rohl. “I truly believe this is just the beginning of what will prove to be an exceptional career for this outstanding young man.”

Cummings had an exceptional first season, becoming one of the first two men in school history to earn all-regional honors. He placed fourth at the conference meet and 11th in regional competition. His fourth-place finish (26:11) at the PSAC Championship was the highest for a freshman. Cummings finished among the top five runners in four out of six meets during the 2003 season.

The son of Janet and Thomas Cummings of Mansfield, Chris is majoring in physics.

He becomes the second Mansfield runner to earn PSAC Rookie of the Year honors in the last two years. Charity Learn (Troy/North Penn) was named the PSAC Female Rookie of the Year last season.
