FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: FRESHMAN CHRIS CUMMINGS IS FIRST FRESHMAN TO FINISH IN PSU SPIKED SHOE INVITE

STATE COLLEGE- Freshman Chris Cummings (Mansfield/Mansfield) was the first freshman to finish in a field of 184 runners at the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational.  Cummings’ time of 27:02.46 on the 5.2 mile course placed him 14th overall.  Cummings was closely followed by teammate Josh Wooten (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta ), who finished 18th with a time of 27:09.15. 

The Mansfield Men’s team finished in 10th place overall with a total time of 2:21:04.95.  They finished third among PSAC teams who were represented at the invite, beating teams from Kutztown University, Clarion University, and California University of Pennsylvania.  Teams from Shippensburg and Bloomsburg Universities finished ahead of Mansfield. 

In the women’s 6k race the top finisher for Mansfield was, freshman Rachel Hall who took 53rd place with a time of 23:57.99.  Also finishing in the top 100 runners were freshman Kristin Weller (New Milford, CT) and Jenna Phillips (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua), who posted times of 25:08.19 and 25:21.71. 

The Mansfield women also finished 10th overall, which placed them fifth among Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponents.

The Mountaineer cross-country teams will be back in action on the 27th of September, when they travel to the Salisbury Invitational in Salisbury, Maryland.
