RELEASE DATE: 5/08/10 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Gray triple winner and provisional qualifier at LHU Qualifier
In additional to Gray’s qualifying mark in the shot put, freshman Bud Plaszenski broke Josh Wooten’s 2004 school record of 9:13.85 in the steeplechase with a time of 9:13.4 to provisional qualify for the upcoming NCAA Division II National Championship. Gray, competing in his final regular season competition of his outstanding career, hit a season-best heave of 52-08.25 in the shot put to better the next best thrower by four feet in earning a provisional qualifying mark. He also won the discus with a 157-2 effort, just under seven feet better than the next longest throw. Gray also won the hammer throw with a 166-04 effort. Other strong efforts for the men included sophomore Nathan MacNabb’s second-place effort in the 3000 meters (9:00.46) and Dane Moist third-place showing in the 100 (11.64). Junior Sean Vollenweider was fifth in the 5000. In the women’s competition, freshman Becky Kratz qualified for the upcoming PSAC Championship with a third place finish of 10:45.69 in the 3000 while Kelly Hollenbeck won the steeplechase (12:33.0). Senior Erin Schlitzer was third in both the shot put (36-00.75) and discus (106-04) with freshman Alicia Edkin finishing fourth in the hammer throw (118-04). Freshman Alexa Tsiknas was fourth in the 200 meters (27.36). Mansfield qualified the most participants in school history of next weekend’s PSAC Championship at West Chester.
