FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield men’s and women’s cross country team’s each ranked no. 9 in NCAA Atlantic Regional preseason poll

MANSFIELD – The 2009 Mansfield University men’s and women’s cross country teams have each been ranked ninth in the U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Preseason Top Ten Poll.

Mansfield was among eight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) teams ranked to the men’s poll. Edinboro was ranked first followed by Lock Haven, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock and Bloomsburg. Wheeling Jesuit (WV) was ranked sixth with East Stroudsburg and IUP ranked seventh and eighth respectively. Mansfield was ninth with Concord (WV) rounding out the top ten.

The PSAC also dominates the women’s preseason poll with the top nine selections led by Shippensburg at number one followed by Slippery Rock, Edinboro, Millersville, Bloomsburg, Kutztown, Lock Haven, IUP and Mansfield. Alderson-Broaddus (WV) was picked 10.

The Atlantic Region is one of eight regions in Division II which also includes the East, Central, Midwest, South, Couth Central, Southeast and West regions.

Both Mountaineer teams open the 2009 season at the Lock Haven Invitation on Sept. 12 with Mansfield hosting the Mountaineer Flatland Invitational on Sept. 19.
