FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mike Gray breaks school shot record – Justin Johnson wins long jump at Southern Tier Collegiate Open in Cornell

ITHACA, NY – Mike Gray (Elmira, NY / Horseheads) set a school record in winning the shot put and freshman Justin Johnson won the long jump at the Southern Tier Collegiate Open late Friday evening at Cornell University.

Gray broke his own school mark with a toss of 52-09.25 earning a NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying mark. Gray also finished third in the weight throw with a mark of 51-10.50

Johnson beat Cornell’s Chris Ryan by seven inches in winning the long jump with a 21-09.50 effort and qualified for the PSAC Championship. He also posted a  45-04.25 mark in the triple jump.

Katie Foster (Elmira, NY / Southside) also qualified for the PSAC Championship with a 35-02.00 effort in the women’s triple jump.

Other notable performances included Ryan Detweiler (Liberty / Liberty) with a 6-00.50 mark in the high jump and freshman Craig Barber with a 12-09.50 mark in the pole vault.
