RELEASE DATE: 4/05/08 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Cummings and Gray take first place in 800 meters and discus respectively at PSAC West Challenge SLIPPERY ROCK -- Chris Cummings won the 800 and Mike Gray captured the discus at the PSAC West Challenge Saturday afternoon at Slippery Rock. Cumming led a Mansfield sweep of the top three spots in the 800 with a time of 1:54.58. Dave Sanford was second at 1:55.69 and Vic Garcia third (1:56.39), all qualifying times for PSAC conference meet. Gray won the discus with a toss of 49.28 meters and finished third in the shot (14.11 meters). In the discus Phil Risser threw 36.32 meters. Ryan Detwiller tied for third in the high jump (1.88 meters). Bryant Rager competed in the triple jump and jumped 12.59 meters. Bryan Falcone competed in the 400m (51.82) and the 200m (23.86). Mason Terribury ran the 400 meter hurdles and had a time of 61.55. John-Mark Stoltz was fourth in the 1500 (3:59.67) which is a PSAC qualifying time. Stolz helped the men to a sixth place finish in the seven team field with 65.5 points. On the women's side there were also some personal bests. For the women, Katrina Brumfield was the top finisher with a second place in the high jump (1.58 meters) and Jess Allen finished 3rd in the 400 meters (1:02.00). Erica Ferguson ran the 800m (2:33.05) and Abbie Waltz competed in the 400 meter hurdles (1:11.24). The women's team finished sixth with 37.5 team points. Coach Cadwell reflected on this weekends performance, "Overall, it was a great meet. Any meet where you can come out with this many personal bests is a huge accomplishment. We are looking to get some more individuals qualified for the conference next week at Rochester."
