FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mike Gray win discus at Coastal Carolina with school record toss

CONWAY,SC – Sophomore Mike Gray (Elmira,NY/Horseheads) won the discus with a school-record toss of 167-7 at the Coastal Carolina University Invitational Saturday afternoon.

Gray stunning toss was more that 12 feet better than his school record throw of 155-5 set as a freshman last season.  His first attempt of the day, the throw is also a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championship.

Gray also qualified for the PSAC Championships in the shot put with a throw of 14.38m. 

Senior Katrina Brumfield and sophomore Katie Foster both qualified for PSACs in the high jump.  Both cleared 5'1, a personal best for Foster.  Newcomer Ryan Detwiller cleared a personal best of 6'3/4" in the high jump. 

Foster also qualified for PSACs in the triple jump with a new school record jump of 36'2.25. 

Freshman Joe Stanek and sophomore John-Mark Stoltz finished 11th and 14th in the 3000 meter run. 

Ryan Kelly qualified for PSACs in the 400 meter run and finished 13th overall with a time of 60.22. 

"Overall it was a pretty successful meet to open the Outdoor season with," said coach Steph Cadwell. 

More 32 schools from the East coast participated in the spring break event to kickoff the 2008 outdoor season.  The track team will compete at Lock Haven on March 29th.
