FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield’s Mike Gray named PSAC Male Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year

MANSFIELD – Add another milestone to Mike Gray’s outstanding season.

Gray, a sophomore from Elmira,NY (Horseheads), become the second Mountaineer in school history to be named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Male Field Athlete of the Year in voting conducted among the PSAC head coaches.

“Mike had just an amazing season,” said head coach Mike Rohl. “He broke the school record in the first meet of the season at Coastal Carolina and kept getting better as the season when on. He had no equal in the PSAC this season.”

Gray, became a champion in the discus at the PSAC Championships with a throw of 165-05 and also finished as runner-up in the shot put with a throw 51-11. 

Gray, who also set the school hammer throw record this season (135-04), made his first trip to the NCAA II National Championships where he earn All-American honors when finished in sixth-place in the discus with a throw of 173-03. 

Earlier in the season, Gray broke his own previous school record in the discus and hammer throw, tossing 176-10 and 141-07, respectively.

Grey won the discus in every regular season meet he completed in during the season finishing third at the ECAC/IC4A championship after winning the PSAC title.
