RELEASE DATE: 3/224/08 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Chris Cummings named PSAC Indoor Track Runner of the Year MANSFIELD – Mansfield University standout Chris Cummings has been selected as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Male Indoor Track Runner of the Year in voting conducted among the head PSAC coaches and released today. A senior from Mansfield (Mansfield HS), Cummings ended his indoor Mountaineer career as one of the most decorated student-athletes in Mansfield history. He is the first Mountaineer to earn indoor track and field All-America honors after placing sixth in the mile in 2006. This season, Cummings placed second in the mile (4:12.63) by just 0.01 seconds in a photo finish to earn his second All-America honor. A member of the distance medley relay squad, Cummings' efforts helped the team earn Mansfield's first trip to nationals after becoming the first team DMR team to earn a PSAC title for the Mountaineers. At the league championships, Cummings was selected as an Overall Co-MVP of the Meet after winning the mile and setting the field house and meet record (4:11.84). The senior is just one of two Mansfield indoor track and field athletes to earn a PSAC title, winning the mile this year and in 2004. For his career, he owns four combined individual and relay top three finishes at the PSAC Championships. As a member of the cross country team, Cummings finished his career as a four-time All-PSAC honoree, as well as becoming Mansfield's first All-American with his 31st place finish this fall.
