RELEASE DATE: 3/224/08 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Chris Cummings named PSAC Indoor Track Runner of the Year
A senior from Mansfield (Mansfield HS), Cummings ended his indoor Mountaineer career as one of the most decorated student-athletes in Mansfield history. He is the first Mountaineer to earn indoor track and field All-America honors after placing sixth in the mile in 2006. This season, Cummings placed second in the mile (4:12.63) by just 0.01 seconds in a photo finish to earn his second All-America honor. A member of the distance medley relay squad, Cummings' efforts helped the team earn Mansfield's first trip to nationals after becoming the first team DMR team to earn a PSAC title for the Mountaineers. At the league championships, Cummings was selected as an Overall Co-MVP of the Meet after winning the mile and setting the field house and meet record (4:11.84). The senior is just one of two Mansfield indoor track and field athletes to earn a PSAC title, winning the mile this year and in 2004. For his career, he owns four combined individual and relay top three finishes at the PSAC Championships. As a member of the cross country team, Cummings finished his career as a four-time All-PSAC honoree, as well as becoming Mansfield's first All-American with his 31st place finish this fall.
