FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield Field Hockey and menís cross-country ranked in NCAA Division II regional polls
MANSFIELD Ė The Mansfield University menís cross country team and the Mountaineer field hockey team are both ranked #4 in this weekís NCAA Division II Regional polls.
The menís cross country team is fourth in the East Region while the field hockey team in fourth in the South Region.
Slippery Rock tops the menís regional cross country poll followed by Edinboro, Lock Haven and Mansfield with Bloomsburg in fifth place. Concord (WV) is sixth followed by Kutztown, Millersville, Shippensburg and East Stroudsburg.
The men compete at the Rochester Invitational this Saturday before the PSAC Championship on Oct. 27.
The field hockey team, ranked #9 in the latest national poll, is ranked fourth in the South Region behind #1 IUP, Kutztown and Bloomsburg. Bellarmine (KY) rounds out the region.
The top three regional ranked teams at the conclusion of the season advance to the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament to face the top three teams from the North Division.
Mansfield is currently in the fourth and final playoff spot in the PSAC behind IUP, Kutztown and Bloomsburg. The Mountaineers have a two game lead over fifth place Shippensburg with three conference games remaining.
Mansfield travels to Bloomsburg on Saturday before ending the regular season with three straight home games including Kutztown next Wednesday followed by a non-conference game with Houghton on Thursday and Slippery Rock on Saturday.
