FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mountaineer
Women's Track and Field Team Ranks in Top 10 in Nation Academically
MANSFIELD – The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches
Association (USTFCCCA) released the 2006-07 All-Academic team honors this week
and the Mountaineer women's track and field squad earned the highest ranking in
school history ranking 10th in the NCAA Division II.
In order to be considered an
All-Academic team, the cumulative GPA of all members on the roster must be at
least 3.0.
The Mountaineer women sit 10th on the
list with a 3.410 collective GPA. That mark is the highest GPA for any of the
PSAC schools with California University of PA sitting 16th at 3.363.
"Our women truly embody the spirit of
the 'student-athlete", said head Coach Mike Rohl. "It is such an honor when our
athletes receive awards on the track, but it is an even greater honor when they
receive academic honors."
The Mountaineer track and field and
cross country teams are looking towards the 2007-08 season with optimism as Rohl
will be bringing in the largest recruiting class of his tenure at Mansfield.
