RELEASE DATE: 4/29/07 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mike Gray has another big day in discus – Freshman finishes second in discus at Cornell’s Big Red Invitational ITHACA, NY – Mansfield University freshman sensation Mike Gray had another big day for the Mountaineers with a second place finish at the Big Red Invitational Sunday afternoon at Cornell University. Gray’s toss of 160-9 was more than five feet better than his previous best – and best in the PSAC this season – mark of 155-5. He is now 17th on the NCAA Division II list with the top 16 advancing to the NCAA Division II National Championship. Gray also finished second in the shot put with a toss of 49-00.25. Dave Sanford won the 800 meter by also a minute over the next competitor with a time of 1:56.38. Chris Greene placed second in the men’s long jump with a 21-06.75 effort and was fourth in the triple jump (42-00.00). Freshman John-Mark Stoltz was eighth n the mile at 4:29.56. Senior Nicole Dann was third in the women’s 800 with a time of 2:16.34. Erica Ferguson qualified for the upcoming PSAC Championship with a fourth place time of 1:0073 in the 400. Teammate Marisa Fronckiewicz was just behind her in fifth place (1:01.23). Clarissa Correll qualified for a berth in the PSAC Championship by finishing fifth in the 1500 meters with a qualifying time of 4:55.53. Rachel Hall finished fifth in the 3000 meters with a time of 11:13.49 with teammate Christyna Cain placing eighth (11:30.37). Katrina Brumfield was fourth in the high jump with a 5-03 effort and also finished eighth in the 200 meter dash (26.35). The Mountaineer will compete at the PSAC Championship held at Shippensburg University the coming Saturday.
