RELEASE DATE: 12/09/06 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Chris Cummings Wins 3000 – Rachel Hall Wins Mile at Kent State Golden Flash Gala – Mounties Set Four School Records KENT, OH – Chris Cummings won the 3000 and Rachel Hall finished first in the mile while Dave Sanford, Katrina Brumfield and Ricky Jones set school records to highlight a strong afternoon for the Mansfield University indoor men’s and women’s track and field teams at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala Saturday. “Not a bad afternoon and a great way to kick start the season,” said head coach Mike Rohl. “Chris and Rachel each win their events, four school records and nine conference qualifiers. That’s a pretty good days work.” Cummings beat out teammate Bryan Morseman to take first place in the 3000 with a winning time of 8:36.96 to Morseman’s 8:48.76. Both qualified for the PSAC Championship. Hall out kicked the competition over the final quarter mile to win the women’s mile with a personal best time of 5:12.17 and qualifying for the PSAC Championship. Katrina Brumfield set a school record with a third place jump of 5-05 in the women’s high jump best her old school mark of 5-03. Dave Sanford also set a school record with a second place finish in the 800 with a time of 1:55.17 bettering Chris Cummings old record of 1:56.45 set last season. In his first meet at Mansfield, Ricky Jones set the school record in the 60 meters with a time of 7.21 to qualify for the PSAC Championship and breaking Kyle Kintner mark of 7.25 set in 2001. Nicole Dann was fifth in the 800 in a qualifying time of 2:20.78 while Marisa Fronczkiewcz also qualified for the PSAC with a 1:00.72 mark in the women’s 400 meters. Amanda Fedish qualified in the 60 meters with a time of 8.28 while freshman Christyna Cain was 10th in the 1000 meters at 3:14.90. The 4 x 400 women’s relay team of Brumfield, Erica Ferguson, Fronczkiewicz and Amber Hamlin set a school record with a time of 4:04.38 |
