FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jeremy Confer Finishes Fifth in NCAA Division II -- Earns All-American Honors

EMPORIA, KANSAS -- Senior javelin thrower Jeremy Confer achieved more than he even thought possible this morning in Emporia, Kansas at the 2006 NCAA Division II National Track and Field Championships. Confer threw a personal best by 13 feet to land a throw of 215 feet 10 inches placing him fifth overall in the National Championships. Confer ends his outstanding career at Mansfield with a new school record performance, and a performance that earns him Mansfield's first All-American honors during the spring season.

"I was happy just to make it to the National Championships," said Confer, "but I knew with my first throw (207'11") with the borrowed javelin that it was going to be a special day. I'm not the kind of guy that gets really excited often, but I got real emotional today when I finally realized my time at Mansfield is up."

What better way to go out, than as the first spring All-American in Mansfield University history.

Jeremy out-threw all four other members of the PSAC that qualified for Nationals. Former Mansfield University record holder Nate Reider, now a member of the Shippensburg track team, finished sixth with IUP's Rob Conrad finishing eighth, giving the PSAC a total of three All-American javelin throwers.

Head Coach Mike Rohl would like to personally thank the coaching staff at Shippensburg University for allowing Jeremy to throw their javelins this weekend.

Mansfield University finishes the 2006 National Championships with 12 points, the highest point total of any PSAC school. With four events left at the time of this release, Mansfield currently is 17th in the team competition out of 46 schools that have scored points.
