FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Chris Cummings
and Nicole Dann Break 800m School Records
Middleburg
Heights, OH -- Junior sensation Chris Cummings established a new
school record in the 800 meters Friday night at Baldwin Wallace College in Ohio.
Cummings, who ran the race as a tune-up for the National Championships, finished
the race second with a time a 1:53.45, narrowly edging Dana Vosburgh's
previous mark of 1:54.09. This was the first race Cummings has not won all
outdoor season, but he thinks the loss may have been a good thing. "I know I
could have run him down if I wasn't boxed on the last turn. It's probably a good
thing I got beat though, I don't want to go into Nationals without a loss," said
a pleased Cummings after running a personal best by over two seconds in the 800.
Joining Chris from the men's team was
senior Jon Holtz. Holtz also ran the 800, finishing with a time of
1:57.17, good enough for 12th in the largest field of the meet, as 24 men ran
the 800.
Highlighting the women's performances
was junior Nicole Dann. Dann, who
earlier this season established a new 1500 meter school record before earning
All-PSAC honors in the 1500, broke the women's school record in the 800 meters.
Dann won the event in a time of 2:17.38, besting assistant coach Steph
Cadwell's previous mark of 2:18.67. "I'm really happy I was able to run
that fast," said Dann, "This whole year has been great self-discovery for me.
I'm really looking forward to next year." Dann will return for her senior year
to play field hockey in the fall before running indoor and outdoor track.
Also putting in final performances of
the 2006 outdoor track season was Katrina Brumfield. Brumfield, a
sophomore, finished second in the high jump with a jump of 5'3" and also
finished fourth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.98 seconds.
Freshman standout Marisa
Fronczkiewicz, finished fifth in the 400 meter run with a time of
1:00.10
Chris Cummings will join senior javelin
thrower Jeremy Confer and senior Charity (Learn) Walker
at the NCAA Division II National Championships this week in Emporia, Kansas. The
trio will fly out on Tuesday before competition begins on Thursday and continues
through the weekend. For updates and results, check back here at
