RELEASE DATE: 1/21/06 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Cummings Breaks 5K Record at RIT Invitational Rochester, NY – Chris Cummings broke his own school record with a first place finish in the 5K and the women’s 4x200 relay team also set a new record at the RIT Invitational Saturday afternoon It was a good start for Cummings in the Mountaineers first team competition of the indoor season. The junior distance runner almost lapped the field in finishing with a winning time of 14:55.44 more than a second faster than his school record of 14:56.92 set last year. Bryan Morseman took third in the event with a time of 15:21.94. Jon Holtz, who as tripped in the first 150 yards of the 800, managed to recover to finish 6th with a time of 2:01.67. The women’s 4x200 relay team of Katrina Brumfield, Amada Fedish, Marisa Fronczkiewicz, and newcomer Kandis Worthington won the event in a time of 1:49.52 eclipsing the mark of 1:50.77 set last season. Fedish also won the 55 meters with a time of 7.63 and was fourth in the 200 (27.68) with teammate Kandis Worthington finishing third (27.66). Jess Lown took second in the 55 hurdles (9.00). Brumfield was second in the high jump at 5-3 while teammate Christina Gray finished third at 5-1. Brumfield was also fifth in the long jump (15-1). Fronczkiewicz took third in the 500 meters (1:22.77) and Nicole Dann was fifth in the 800 (2:24.36). The 4x400 relay team of Brumfield, Fedish, Fronczkiewicz and Worthington took fifth (4:75.69).
