FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES EXCEL AT CTC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP IN NEW YORK CITY – CUMMINGS WINS TWICE IN RECORD SETTING PERFORMANCE

NEW YORK, NY – Sophomore Chris Cummings turned in one of the most impressive days in Mansfield University men’s indoor track and field history to lead the Mountaineer men to a third place finish at the CTC Indoor Track Championship at the Armory in New York City Sunday evening.

Steph Cadwell paced the women to a third place finish out of a field of 21 teams at the same event.

Cummings, who set a new school record in winning the 1,000 meters at the PSAC East Challenge at Kutztown the day before, had a remarkable afternoon starting with winning the mile run with a time of 4:22.75 in a field of 22 runners. Ninety minutes later, Cummings ran away with a first place finish in the 3,000 meters with a school record time of 8:41.87, besting 29 other runners.

Cummings then capped off is extraordinary day by anchoring the 4x800 relay team to school record finish of 8:05.94.

Joe Trapani won the 3000 racewalk with a time of 13:58.28 with Ben Israel finishing second (17:16.06).  Chad Woodruff finished second in the pentathlon with 2954 points with Adam Keir placing third with 2804 points. Both qualified for the PSAC Indoor Championship.

Also earning points for the men were Keith Drummond with a sixth place finish in the 200 meters (23.20), Derek Weis was sixth in the 800 meters (2:00.66) and Rich Correll sixth in the 5,000 meters (16:09.50).

Cadwell also had an impressive weekend finishing second in the indoor pentathlon with 2,649 to qualify for the PSAC Championship. Cadwell finished first in the 500 meters (1:18.15) was sixth in the 800 meters (2:23.53), fourth in the triple jump (33-02.50) and finished sixth in the long jump (16-03.25).

Finishing second for the Mountaineers were Luisa Lucero in the 1500 racewalk (8:54.71) and Megan Kerr in the pole vault with a school record 9-06.25.

Despite suffering from the flu earlier in the week, Charity Learn was third in the 3,000 (10:40.41) and fourth in the mile run (5:30.10). Katrina Brumfield was third in the high jump (4-11.75) and fifth in the triple jump (33-00.50) as well as the long jump (16-04.25).

Katie Heil placed third in the shot put (37-00.25) with Nicole Dann picking up a third place in the 500 meters (1:24.00) and sixth in the 1000 (3:13.77). Rachel Hall was fifth in the 1000 (3:09.02) while Amanda Fedish was eighth in the 200 meters (27.23).
