RELEASE DATE: 1/30/05 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: RACHEL HALL WINS THE 1000 METER AT THE BUCKNELL BISON OPEN LEWISBURG- Rachel Hall won the 1,000 meter on Saturday afternoon at the 8th annual Bucknell Open. Hall, who is returning from an injury during the fall, won the race with a time of 3:08.71. Hall just missed her own school record which was set last year with a time of 3:07.58. Joe Trapani and Ben Israel finished 3rd and 6th respectively in the USATF Indoor National 3000m race walk championship (finishing in 13:38.26, and 15:48.68). In a field which included past Olympians, each athlete earned All-American status. In the women's 1000m USATF Indoor championship, Jamie Sweitzer and Luiza Lucero finished10th and 11th. Other top finishers on the women’s side were: Katrina Brumfield with a second place finish in the high jump (1.60) Brumfield was beaten by last year's PSAC champion, and All-American, Beck Bullard. Along with Brumfield, Amanda Fedish ran well with a 3rd place finish in the 200 meter (27.50), qualifying her for the PSAC Championships. Two other women, Nicole Dann, and Katie Heil qualify for the PSAC championships. Dann qualified in the 800m with a time of 2:27.91, and Heil had a personal best throw, after a year off of training, with a distance of 35' 3" in the shot put. The next meet for the Mountaineers is the New Balance and Milrose games this weekend at the Armory. |
